Vodacom South Africa in talks to buy Vast Networks stake - report

(Telecompaper) Vodacom South Africa is in talks to buy a stake in Vast Networks, Mybroadband reported, citing industry sources. It said this follows news that Vast Networks, which is owned by Dimension Data and Naspers, is up for sale. The company is an open access Wi-Fi network infrastructure provider, delivering carrier-grade Wi-Fi in Southern Africa.

China Telecom to launch 5G trial networks in 6 cities

(Telecompaper) China Telecom plans to trial 5G networks in six cities across the country. "We are deeply devoted to engaging in 5G standard formulation and technology trial runs while proactively exploring and researching the networking plan for the evolution from 4G," the company said. China Telecom will carry out field trials in six cities, as well as develop R&D applications and services in cooperation with partners from various industries.

Wireless VR set to strain data networks
