Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is likely, and Marie is expected to become a hurricane by tonight. The storm is forecast to become a major hurricane within a couple of days. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center.
