MTGS Spacecraft Operations Team Leader

Reporting to the Meteosat Spacecraft Operations Manager in the Flight Operations Division, the MTGS Spacecraft Operations Team Leader will first lead the spacecraft operations preparation for Meteosat Third Generation MTGS sounding satellites, working in close coordination and sharing resources with the MTGI imaging satellite Spacecraft Operations Team Leader. After the launch, heshe will lead MTGS flight operations and support coordination with flight operations of other Meteosat satellites. DUTIES Lead the MTGS spacecraft operations preparations activities, including Production of all relevant plans, procedures and manuals regarding system verification validation, operations, rehearsals, training, etc. Review and acceptance of MTGS flight operations plans manuals Validation of MTGS operational databases and generation and validation of MTGS flight operations procedures Support to MTGS satellitesystem and ground segment validation testing Participate in the specification, development or procurement, followup, verification and validation for all the tools necessary to complete the operational validation of both types of MTG satellites and the MTG system and ground segment Support the MTG development programme on all matters relevant to operations preparation for the MTGS mission, including implementation and validation of the system operations concepts, and, as required, liaison with ESA, the satellite prime contractor, the LEOP and commissioning teams Support the integration and the exchange of technical information between the MTG development programme and the Flight Operations Division for the various MTGS flight control ground segment facilities e.g. Satellite simulator, Mission Control system, Multi mission facilities for planning, monitoring and performance analysis Support the Meteosat Operations Manager in the preparations of relevant operations teams for readiness for MTGS launch, commissioning and operations, and in coordinating the phasein of the MTGS mission with ongoing Meteosat routine operations Lead flight operations of MTGS satellites, and support coordination with flight operations of other Meteosat Second and Third Generation satellites Deputise for the Meteosat Spacecraft Operations Manager as required. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Significant experience in spacecraft operations andor operations preparations, at coordinationteamleader level, preferably in an international environment. Knowledge of system engineering standards and methodologies relevant to operations of space systems Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas is necessary Routine operations of geostationary satellites Preparation of operations of a complex satellite system, preferably an Earth observation satellite system Spacecraft design and assembly, integration and test LEOP and Commissioning Operations Knowledge of Satellite system design and Monitoring Control principles Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the implications for future routine operations of decisions taken during the development phase Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to apply these to interactions within a team and between teams Experience of project or team or technical coordinationmanagement Ability to understand and synthesise complex issues, to express ideas and issues clearly i.e. analysis, synthesis and presentation skills. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS The initial contract will be of 4 years duration, with subsequent 5year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of followup contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. This post is graded A2A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 5,612 per month net of internal tax which may be negotiable based on skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year. Keep uptodate the Configuration Management database in order to produce Configuration Status Accounting Reports by identifying, relating and tracking versions of hardware items, software items and documentation for all the baselines Verify the hardware and software configuration status by performing configuration audits and inspections Contribute to project and programme reviews for change and configuration management aspects Contribute to the definition and implementation of change and configuration management requirements Contribute to the advertisement and continuous improvements of applicable Configuration Management processes, procedures, guidelines Contribute to the provision of training and coaching sessions to users and stakeholders Contribute to the specification and production of Configuration Management metrics. Perform administration tasks on the Configuration Management tool.
