Astroscale is seeking to employ an experienced and motivated Head of Spacecraft Operations at our facility based in Harwell, UK. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing company seeking to make a positive contribution to the growing problem of orbital debris that endangers mankinds continued use of space as an asset. Whilst the candidate will primarily work in the UK, they will interact extensively with a larger team in Astroscales Japan Office and may be required to travel to Tokyo as needed in support of Astroscale projects and operations. Responsibilities Lead ASUK spacecraft operations activities, including planning, scheduling, delivery, team line management, and reporting. Proactively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Ground Segment, Engineering, and Programmes. Work closely with stakeholders across global Astroscale sites to deliver the Operations content of missions, and support coordination alignment across the Business. Overall responsibility for Operations documentation, including Operations Plan, Flight Control Procedures nominal and contingency, etc. Provide Operations inputs to Astroscale missions, including requirements, CONOPS, validation, etc. Provide Operations inputs to bid activities. Define, develop, and perform simulation and training campaigns. Support the verification and validation of satellite control systems and the integration of remote ground system equipment. Lead Operations reviews POR, COR, etc, provide input for mission design reviews PDR, CDR, etc. Essential Skills University degree in relevant engineering discipline. 3 years experience in Spacecraft Operations and team leadership. Should include experience in conducting critical realtime operations. Drive to actively contribute to both Operations team and wider company. Operational experience with satellite control systems, flight dynamics systems, TTC hardware, etc. Ability to work independently, take ownership of all aspects of job and demonstrate initiative. Ability to work constructively as a team member with multidisciplinary experts e.g., satellite systems engineers, mission analysis engineers, and satellite control professionals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to manage multiple tasks with retaining quality standards. Cultural understanding and flexibility. Desired Skills Knowledge of Flight Dynamics and Orbital Mechanics. Experience and knowledge of spacecraft mission control systems, e.g. SCOS2000. Experience and knowledge of MOIS Operations Preparation Tools.
