The key task of the job is to be able to support our subsystem engineering team in the area of IP based communication System but will require, for a well rounded knowhow of the project, some onconsole 16X5 i.e no night shift or shift on weekends as Columbus System Controller. Astroscale is seeking to employ an experienced and motivated Senior Spacecraft Operations Engineer at our facility based in Harwell, UK. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing company seeking to make a positive contribution to the growing problem of orbital debris that endangers mankinds continued use of space as an asset. This role will allow the right candidate to shape solutions for our missions. Whilst the candidate will primarily work in the UK, they will interact extensively with a larger team in Astroscales Japan Office and may expect to be required to travel to Tokyo as needed in support of Astroscale projects and operations. Responsibilities Act as a technical lead for the Operations team Perform routine and critical realtime operations Participate in operations planning and scheduling processes Develop, validate and maintain nominal and contingency mission operations procedures automated manual Develop, validate and maintain operations tools and scripts as required Prepare spacecraft user manuals and other operations documentation as required Contribute to the development of mission operations concepts Provide operations expertise at system, subsystem and instrument level supporting design reviews, bid proposals and other activities as required Perform health and performance trend analysis at system, subsystem and instrument level, producing reports as required Investigate spacecraft anomalies and participate in anomaly resolution process Interface internally externally as required in support of operations activities and ensure all relevant information is formatted and disseminated appropriately Participating in 247 shift and oncall rotations, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured on a 247 basis Provide engineering support and mentoring to Operation team members. Essential Skills University degree in a relevant engineering discipline Several years of demonstrable satellite industry experience, preferably realtime operations as part of a flight control team operating a Low Earth Orbit LEO mission through the complete life cycle. Comprehensive knowledge of satellite subsystems, in particular AOCSGNC or OBDH Operation of satellite ground systems, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, configuration management and simulator facilities Satellite performance monitoring and reporting, including anomaly analysis and resolution in liaison with satellite industry, procedure change control and configuration management processes Can operate in a calm, orderly and disciplined manner during high stress situations. Able to identify problems, perform root cause analysis and implement appropriate solutions in a timely manner. Detail orientated and able to work using own initiative with limited supervision, as well as alongside other team members. An effective English language communicator at all levels with skills to CEFR Level B2 Independent User or TOEIC 700. Desired Skills Familiarity with mission control systems, preferably SCOS2000 based Experience of satellite assembly, integration testing processes Experience with systems engineering processes Experience of formationflying or closeproximity satellite operations Familiarity with operations preparation tools, such as MOIS Software coding experience with Scripting languages, e.g. Python Knowledge of Flight Dynamics and Orbital Mechanics Familiarity of relevant ECSS standards relating to Ground Systems Operations. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Supporting the performance of Operational Preparation and Validation activities by the GSOp contractor.
