Wateen, Qubee to merge wireless broadband business

(Telecompaper) The shareholders of Pakistani service provider Wateen Telecom and Qubee plan to combine the companies' wireless broadband businesses. Abu Dhabi Group, the majority shareholder of Wateen Telecom, and New Silk Route Private Equity Asia Fund, the ultimate majority shareholder of Qubee, will form a combined wireless broadband business from Wateen and Qubee with over 200,000 subscribers. Investments of over USD 25 million are planned to improve and expand coverage of the combined network and with a view to upgrade to LTE in the future. The transaction is subject to the requisite corporate, regulatory and governmental approvals, and is targeted to be completed within the first half of year 2014.

Kabel Deutschland tests 200 Mbps broadband product in Mainz

(Telecompaper) German cable network operator Kabel Deutschland has started a market test of up to 200 Mbps superfast broadband in Mainz. This is double the previous highest available speed of 100 Mbps. Cable households in Mainz can now book the new 'Internet & Telefon 200' product, which is targeted at heavy users, or households with several internet users and many devices accessing bandwidth-intensive online applications. The package also offers upload speeds of up to 12 Mbps. New customers in Mainz can get the product for EUR 39.90 per month in the first year, rising to EUR 59.90 per month thereafter. Customers must sign a minimum 24-month contract. The plan also includes a phone connection with flat-rate for calls to the German fixed-line network.
