Space Applications Services performs space system and software engineering for the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies and the space industry. We are involved in international unmanned and manned spacecraft programmes. We require staff, wishing to join our team to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position EGSE Software Engineer ENGSERVEGSE201308 Engineering Support to System, Software and Synthesis Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed for the European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The contractor will be assigned to the System Modelling andFunctional Verification Section of the Software Systems Division and provide on demand expertise in activities related to space system database software production. This includes following tasks and responsibilities Providing technical support to projects on specific issues related to space system database software development including software problem solving, exchange and interfaces with external systems, project reviews. Support for the Space System Database reference facility using in conjunction with the EGSE reference facility, including isolating and fixing software problems. The task will initially be focused in the context of ESA projects on the verification of spacecraft monitoring and control data delivered by the Primes for use by Ground Segment and Operations. In the medium term, the support will extend to the area of system database SW development, including support to the divisional reference facility. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have a University degree in a relevant discipline, practical experience of working in AIT or operations with issues related to monitoring and control of space systems and also have experience in the engineering of complex software systems involving DBMS tools. Furthermore, candidates are required to have following skills Knowledge of Space Systems andtheir constituting elements Knowledge of relational databases and toolsand SQL, in particular an Oracle environment Operational experience with SCOS 2000 and the SCOS 2000 MIB ICD Experience with the PUS and its tailoring Experience with Data Verification and Validation Knowledge of the Database Software Life Cycle Knowledge of Conceptual Data Modelling Ability to work independently Good organization skills, good communication skills Fluent in English Conditions Application by email is preferred and should include 1 a Motivation Letter and 2 a CV, in English, both marked ENGSERVEGSE201308. Mission Control Operations Engineering Support 1313063 Job Description The selected engineer will provide support to the development and operation of the MSG Ground Segment and the EPS Overall Ground System. Main duties are the operation of the MSG Central Facility and the EPS Mission Control System, and supporting operational use of Mission Control Facility Tools and the mission controlrelated multimission tools. The role comprises a range of tasks including the provision of support to the routine operation of the MCS, and the interfaces between the MCS and other components of the EPS Core Ground Segment. The selected engineer will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures related to the operation of the MCS and these interfaces, in accordance with the established configuration management and quality assurance practices. In addition, the engineer will acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the MSG System, and the EPS CGS and OGS, particularly in the areas of system monitoring control and data flows, due to the central role the CF and MCS play in the MSG and EPS Systems. The engineer will review any planned changes to the system configuration and support in the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine operations. As part of a team of MCS engineers, the engineer will also provide oncall support. Furthermore, support to the development and operations preparation for recurrent satellites in existing operational programs, and for future operational programs now in development will be required. Required Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline At least seven years work experience in the operation of spacecraft control systems At least five years work experience developing andor maintaining spacecraft mission control systems software At least five years work experience developing andor maintaining software for a UNIX operating system At least two years work experience with the SCOS spacecraft control system At least wo years work experience defining and implementing the verification and validation of spacecraft mission control systems software Work proactively in an individual or team environment, with the minimum of supervision Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills and be confident to deal with a wide variety of people and to influence at all levels Fluency in English Desirable Skills and Experience Extensive experience at least three years in the use of databases and SQLrelated querying in relation to spacecraft mission control systems Extensive experience at least three years in the definition, development, integration and acceptance testing of spacecraft mission control systems Extensive experience at least three years in the operations preparation and routine operations of Geostationary GEO and Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems Experience of using configuration management systems such as CVS Experience of using satellite simulators Familiarity with ECSS and CCSDS standards related to spacetoground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Monitoring Control Systems Packet Telemetry and Telecommand standards, PUS Packet Utilisation Standard, etc. Familiarity with flight dynamics and mission planning functions and systems as applied to satellite operations Familiarity with EPOCH IPS MC product suite from Integral Systems now Kratos Windows and Linux operating systems Leading a small team of engineers Work Location Darmstadt, Germany Dates Application Deadline 02 September 2013 Start of Work 01 January 2014 Important Notes Before applying to this position, please read the page Notes to Applicants on the Solenix website under Career.
