Currency values have not moved in September, ahead of a new fall of the Sterling in the past hours which is expected further depressing clothing exports to the UK. The Indonesian rupiah has again risen in October whereas the Honduran currency was again falling. Our monthly statistical report displays a comprehensive view of currency values against the US dollar but also v. the euro, the British pound, the Indian and Pak rupees, and the Chinese renminbi over a 2-year period.

Spandex prices have stayed frozen in the last weeks in China, with raw material costs of elastane producers being also kept unchanged. Our monthly report covers spandex and PTMEG prices on the domestic Chinese market, with gross margin trends at spandex plants on a daily and monthly basis. Inflation rates have not moved in the past month in low-cost countries with a fragile balance having been found so far between the need for fighting inflation on one side and for supporting a slowing down economic growth on the other side. Consumer prices have strikingly surged however, when expressed in UK pound terms. Our monthly report offers a comparison of inflation rates in low-cost countries, with historical data available back to June 2007. Impact of currency changes vs the US dollar and the euro is also calculated to assess real terms of trade for exporters.
