Telkom, Airtel Kenya abandon plans for merger

Telkom Group FY revenue up 3% to ZAR 43 bln

(Telecompaper) South Africa's Telkom Group revenue said its revenue grew 3 percent to ZAR 43.0 billion in the year to end March, with expansion in the mobile market helping to offset a 22 percent decline in fixed voice revenue. The group reported a 66.4 percent decline in headline earnings per share to ZAR 2.08 per share. Basic earnings per share decreased by 78.4 percent to ZAR 1.21, impacted by one-time costs for voluntary severance and early retirement packages, Covid-19, and a higher effective tax rate.
MTN, Vodacom and Telkom get extra spectrum to meet data demand during lockdown

(Telecompaper) The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has granted MTN, Vodacom and Telkom emergency spectrum to deal with an increase in data demand during the coronavirus outbreak. ICASA said it considered applications for temporary radio frequency spectrum assignments in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz bands, including the use of television white spaces (TVWS), in an effort to ensure connectivity during the National State of Disaster.
