Your Tasks Include The general responsibilities of the engineer will be as follows Supporting the Antenna Test campaigns within the Client Antenna Measurement Laboratory, including test definition, test execution and delivery of datatest report to the customer Perform testing activities in Spherical, Planar, Cylindrical Near Field, Compact Range and Material RF Characterisation facilities, including test plans and test setup preparation, operation of the test ranges and analysis of test results Perform research testing activities that challenge the current stateoftheart in space antenna measurements, aiming at enabling new testing capability and fulfil the needs of future ESA space missions in all space applications Earth Observation, Navigation, Science, Telecommunications, Human Space Flight and Space Transportation Support the Antenna Measurement Laboratory Maintenance and Equipment Calibration activities Support to Antenna Design and Modelling activities Handson antenna modelling support to projects. Your Profile The successful candidate should have the following qualifications and experience A university masters degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering with major emphasis on Electromagnetics. Experience in the following areas General background in antenna technologies and experience in antenna testing preferably in the space domain Good working knowledge of Near and Far field antenna testing systems Capability for performing activities related to all aspects of testing and integration of antenna systems in an autonomous way General understanding of measurement uncertainty and accuracy Experience in maintenance and calibration of general RF antenna laboratory test equipment and instrumentation Experience with handling of space hardware is considered an asset Good working knowledge on antenna systems and design approaches Good working knowledge on latest antenna design and modelling software tools. Antenna Design Engineer MDA is expanding its already successful antenna engineering team, and is looking for intermediate and senior antenna design engineers to work either at its Canadian or UK locations. The candidates will collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop stateoftheart communication antenna to be operated in space or a challenging environment. The candidate will be part of a design team performing RF analyses of antenna system performance, and will use industry standard modeling tools e.g. TICRA to predict performance in the chosen environment, thermal and manufacturing distortion, scattering, as well as coupling with the host vehicle or spacecraft and other antennas. Responsibilities will also involve performing highpower capability assessments of antenna designs e.g. PIM Multipactor and conduct design and customer reviews internal design reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews PDR, Critical Design Reviews CDR to ensure that RF performance requirements are met. In addition they will provide RF support during testing of antenna feed chains and antenna assemblies and will contribute to RD programs and proposals. Competencies Candidate must have a strong Electromagnetic microwave background and experience in the design of spacecraft antennas. Five to ten years experience in the field of spacecraft antenna products e.g. feed chains, reflector antenna systems. Self driven and motivated individual. A diverse range of tasks will have to be carried out by the contractor within the above technical domain, encompassing hardware, software and system aspects. This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk Netherlands. DUTIES The post holder will report to the Head of the Antenna and SubMillimetre Waves Section of the Electromagnetics and Space Environment Division. Within the Electromagnetics and Space Environment Division, the Antenna and SubMillimetre Waves Section carries out project support and technological research tasks in the area of space antenna systems and submillimetre wave instruments. This includes antenna, payload and instrument radiative performance testing. The frequency domain covers the 100 MHz to 1 THz range. Within the technical domains described above and under the direct responsibility of the Head of the Section, the incumbent will be assigned the role of Antenna Laboratory Coordinator for the internal and external antenna and RF material measurement facilities that fall under the responsibility of the Section. This role includes the following tasks handling all operational aspects and planning of the facilities contributing to the definition of the laboratory strategy, elaborating relevant infrastructure plans for the facilities and supporting their implementation coordinating the activities of the external ESA antenna laboratory in order to maximise synergies contributing to the identification of future needs in terms of RF radiative testing and supporting the ensuing evolution of the relevant facilities and testing hardware and software. Other tasks and responsibilities will include providing support to projects, programmes and general studies participating in project reviews, inhouse design and tradeoffs to support projectspecific technology development defining, initiating and monitoring antenna research and development activities covering long and shortterm needs fostering new application areas for multidisciplinary activities, placing emphasis on antenna testing innovative concepts, cuttingedge techniques and technologies and system architectures monitoring applicable antenna testing scientific and technological trends and maintaining stateoftheart expertise with a focus on antenna testing contributing to the dissemination of the results of activities performed and to the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering with a comprehensive background in antenna testing and material radiofrequency characterisation. Solid experience in near and far field test techniques as applied to aerospace programmes is required, as is experience in the coordination of RF testing facilities. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should be able to work effectively, autonomously and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment, defining and implementing solutions in line with team and individual objectives, as well as project deadlines. Applicants should also have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to problemsolving and an interest in innovative technologies. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
