A vacancy for a Software Engineer Secure Communications has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Newport. The successful applicant will join the Product Engineering team within our Secure Communications group. The Software Engineer is responsible for demonstrating that the developed product meets all specified legislative and customer requirements, by Analysing requirements and specifying the software solution and work breakdown Generating source code to implement all aspects of the software detailed design Integration of software onto the target platform Providing software technical support Key Performance Measures Planned versus Actual metrics for cost, time and quality against completed Work Packages. To design and develop the equipment identified in the Software Development Plan in line with project delivery milestones. To support the design and development of critical components where decisions may impact project timescales significantly. To provide technical guidance to fellow team members The primary focus of the job is Operational delivery of project funded Work Packages. Analytical To identify and isolate errors in the product or system, their likely causes and solutions. Ingenuity To work on hisher own on a complete design from concept to delivery, possibly across multiple projects. This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Companys success, reputation and sustainable growth. Education Qualifications Degree level of software engineering Use of Linux based operating systems desirable Knowledge of C, and C coding practices highly advantageous Knowledge of Linux command line networking functions highly advantageous. Understanding of IP networking, IPSec, and nextgen management protocols are advantageous, but not required. Must have existing UK SC security clearance, or be capable of attaining UK SC clearance This role is based at Airbus Defence and Space offices, Newport, South Wales, with occasional requirements for business travel within the UK and abroad Many of our staff work flexibly in many different ways, including parttime. The successful graduate will join a small team of experienced Consultant Systems Engineers and Analysts who are primality focused on UK Military Satellite Communications Services and Systems. This team has been key to the successful delivery and operation of the current Skynet 5 system, and is now providing the technical and analytical leadership for the next generation SKYNET 6 programme. The main activities of this role will include The day to day Maintenance of the current set of Analysis Models Lead the Development and Evolution of the current set of Analysis Models Assist in the Definition and Production of new Analysis Models as required to support the SKYNET 6 programme for the Next Generation of UK Milsatcom Presentation of Analysis Results and Conclusions to Internal staff and External Customers Contribute to Reports detailing the Analysis Models, Techniques employed and Results Achieved Support the definition and derivation of Requirements and Architectures for Next Generation UK Milsatcom Systems and Services Working within the Team and the wider programme community to assist with the adherence to System Engineering Processes Supporting the overall System Engineering consistency of the resulting Specifications, Design, Implementation and Acceptance. As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate the following At a minimum, a 21 degree or equivalent in Digital Telecommunications, Satellite Communications, ElectricalElectronic Engineering, Physics or related subject Excellent written and verbal communication skills Be proactive and comfortable working both autonomously and as part of a team. This role will be based in Portsmouth and will receive the full Airbus Defence Space Graduate programme benefit package including an annual Salary of 27,000, plus a welcome payment of 2,000.
