TASKS Longterm planning and shortterm scheduling of the operational usage of the ground stations to support both the needs of the Flight Operations Division FLO and Ground Stations engineering team Interface with project teams for the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects and major activities described in the Operational System MidTerm Evolution Plan. Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced LEO Spacecraft Operations Engineer Consultant. You shall work in the Operations and Services to Users Department as a member of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team, where depending on the level of experience, skills and overall team needs, responsibility will be taken for the operations of inorbit subsystems andor instruments, as well as for the operations preparation and operational conduct of inorbit verification for those subsystems and instruments on the MetopC satellite. Furthermore, this may also include support to the onboard software management, simulator configuration, automation of routine analysis or other activities included within the scope of activities of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team. The right person will establish effective working interfaces with the satellite operations activities of other operations engineers and analysts, and external teams responsible for mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Furthermore, you shall support system and operations preparation activities for Metop Second Generation satellites and possibly also for JasonCS Sentinel6. Responsibilities The tasks will typically include Support to the routine operations of Metop A, B Provision of operational expertise to platform subsystems andor payload instruments andor onboard software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition of additional automated analysis and checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Operations Support Entity in ESA and Industry Support the coordination of partner agency interactions for relevant subsystemsinstruments Participation in the satellite oncall support rota Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Support the definition and eventual execution of MetopA inorbit technology testing and endoflife operations. Support to the operations preparation and early operations of MetopC Update, verify and validate the subsystem or instrument procedures and associated operational documentation for MetopC, including support to Satellite System Validation Tests and other Ground Segment Validation Testing. Participate in MetopC Satellite InOrbit Verification Testing. Support to the system and operations preparation of Metop Second Generation satellites Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites. Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites Provide operations preparation support as required to the JasonCS Sentinel6 development. This is a fulltime position at EUMETSATs facilities in Darmstadt, Germany with a planned starting date ASAP. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you shall have a demonstrated experience in at least two of the following mandatory skills Spacecraft monitor and control operations Spacecraft operations preparation engineering Low Earth Orbit spacecraft design or Assembly Integration and Test activities at system or subsystem level. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language. Copernicus System Operations Engineering Support System External Interfaces

Client and Location For one of our main customers, EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for consultancy support for a full time Copernicus S3 ground system operations engineer position to provide consultancy in the area of System External Interfaces to support The routine operations phase of the sentinel3A satellite The operations preparation, commissioning and subsequent routine operations of sentinel3B The procurement of Sentinel3 C and D. The consultant shall be integrated into the Sentinel3 System Operations Team, within Real Time Services and System Operations Division of the Operations and User Services Department. The consultancy support will be to provide system operations engineering support, covering all spacecraft interface and flight operations aspects of the S3 Ground Segment, as well as the operational service monitoring and control. Tasks and responsibilities The consultant shall provide support to the development and operation of the Copernicus Sentinel3 Ground Segment, as well as its evolution. Main duties will include the support to System operations in a realtime operations environment Endtoend operations monitoring Operations procedure definition updates Communications systems operations Security operations Infrastructure operations and evolution Ensuring Business Continuity Multimission operations, including mass storage and archiving System Evolutions. The consultant will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures pertaining to system operations and the interfaces of the key systems within the Sentinel3 ground segment, in accordance with the established EUMETSAT Operations Department configuration management and quality assurance practices. The consultant will acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the Sentinel3 ground segment. In particular, the consultant will maintain operational expertise on the internal and external interfaces of the ground segment. The consultant will review any planned changes to the system configuration for the ground segments, and support the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine system and ground segment operations. The consultant will provide support to the development and operations preparation for recurrent Sentinel3 satellites. The consultant will interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade. The consultant will perform the following routine operations tasks Definition and maintenance of system operations procedures, including System and ground segment procedures and operations guides Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimisation of spacecraft monitoring and control activities Liaison and coordination with the ground segment FOS and PDGS operations teams and system operations analysts to ensure the continuity and optimisation of ground segment and mission operations through procedure and operations guide updates, configuration changes, database or user interface changes, etc. Production and maintenance of operations documentation Joint Operations Rules and Procedures, Operations Interface Control Documents etc. Interface and coordination with the systems maintenance teams and industry representatives to ensure optimised performance, including participating in the definition and implementation of any changes Provision of support to operational ground segment analyses Provision of standbyoncall support as system operations engineer, on an as needed basis. This will be coordinated through the normal oncall process Provision of support, as required, to critical operations Processing and coordination of system anomalies, their documentation, investigation, classification and resolutionmitigation, including participation in Anomaly Review Boards Participation in technical meetings, formal reviews, and scheduling and planning meetings Processing and coordination of system modifications, including their documentation, approval, and implementation, including participation in Change Review Boards Support to, and participation in, the functional verification and operational validation of system upgrades and evolutions, both standalone and in the context of the overall Sentinel3 ground segment Provision of training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other members of the Operations Team. The tasks assigned to the consultant will be agreed through dedicated workpackages with clear identification of activities and outputs expected. In the performance of these tasks, the consultant shall apply the EUMETSAT configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. Experience and education In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Consultant shall have at least 5 years of experience of spacecraft and related ground segment operations, in particular Experience of Ground Segment System Operations to support Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3Axis Stabilised Spacecraft during operation preparation, LEOP, commissioning and routine operations phases Development and maintenance of complex operational ground systems, preferably for Earth Observation spacecraft System and Interfaces Engineering AIT experience for the development of major upgrades new ground systems in a high availability 247 operational environment Satellite monitoring and control systems and nearrealtime data processing, dissemination and archive systems Operational Monitoring of near real time data flows in large computer networks Full development cycle of large systems, from the definition of requirements to system design and operations Definition and management of operational interfaces within the ground segment and with external entities Investigation into anomalies, their documentation, classification and correctionmitigation, participation in Anomaly Review Boards and, where applicable, Operations Incident investigation and review activities Familiarity with the ECSS standards Experience with development and validation of operational ground segment and associated operations procedures for nominal and contingency recovery cases Familiarity with procedure Change control and configuration management of ground segment operational systems.
