Your future duties and responsibilities You will join a team specialised in one of the following areas Spacecraft Orbit Determination and Control Spacecraft Attitude Monitoring and Control Spacecraft Command Generation The Flight Dynamics team members perform all operational activities related to controlling the spacecraft orbit and attitude. As team member you will be involved with the complete systems and operational lifecycle for the actual spacecraft operations, ranging from early capturing of requirements, to design, implementation and testing of the flight dynamics systems tools and finally with performing actual critical for example, launch and routine operations. The Flight Dynamics team members are usually involved in many satellite missions at the same time which means you combine development of new systems for upcoming missions with critical andor routine operations for active satellites in space. The work in Flight Dynamics is continuously changing, challenging and highly technical. The working environment is completely panEuropean and very dynamic. The working language is English. Required qualifications to be successful in this role The following expertise will be valuable Applied mathematics, classical mechanics Attitude and Orbit Control Systems sensors actuators Orbit determination using tracking data or GPS, filtering batch least squares method, Orbit planning and control, Control theory Optimisation Fortran, Matlab, Mathematica, script languages UnixLinux The tasks to be performed require considerable initiative, flexibility and independence in executing the assigned tasks. For our customer in Darmstadt we are looking for a Flight Dynamics Engineer to support the routine operations of inflight satellites as well as preparation and after launch execution of Flight Dynamics operations for future Low Earth Orbiting satellites. The successful candidate will be based at the customer headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Some activities may require intervention during the night and nonworking days. Tasks and Responsibilities The tasks in the area of routine operations of inflight satellites will include Execution of routine operations spacecraft orbit determination and propagation, events and ground station visibility predictions, Attitude and Orbit Control System telecommand generation and telemetry monitoring Planning and execution of spacecraft maneuvers, as well as their evaluation, thruster calibration and maintenance of the fuel budget estimates Preparation and execution of conjunction avoidance maneuvers, recovery of routine operations, safe mode support and operation transfer to the BackUp Control Centre Operational quality control of maneuvers and AOCS telecommands before uplink and execution onboard the spacecraft Preparation and maintenance of Flight Dynamics operational procedures for routine, special and contingency operations, configuration maintenance and system management Performance analysis of the Flight Dynamics Systems, specially focusing on the monitoring of the input to the processing of meteorological products, and implementation of enhancements as required Perform system level analyses needed for the refinement of the Flight Dynamics algorithms Routine reports as necessary. The tasks in the area of preparation and after launch execution of Flight Dynamics operations for future Low Earth Orbiting satellites will include FD database preparation, definition of operational procedures, generation of related operational configuration data and participation to operational validation of satellite and groundsegment operations startup of FD system and initialisation of FD operational data, assessment of handover conditions, inflight validation of FD performances, execution of operations during orbit acquisition and commissioning activities and transition to routine operations Review of spacecraft and groundsegment technical documentation and participation in formal reviews Performance of mission and system analysis studies, preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings Execution of Flight Dynamics activities after the transition to routine operations of a new satellite. Skills and Experience The Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes and skills At least years of experience on Flight Dynamics of a LEO satellite Knowledge of the analytical principles for orbit determination and control Experience with the routine operations of operational Flight Dynamics systems for LEO satellites Experience with the preparation and validation of operational Flight Dynamics systems for LEO satellites. Experience with some of the following will be a distinct advantage Knowledge of NAPEOS and Orekit SW Familiarity with the AOCS of Low Earth orbiting satellites Experience with conjunction analysis systems Familiarity with configuration control practices for operational software Skills in the area of software development and validation Experience with one or more of the following Java, Python, TCL, Fortran Familiarity with statistical and graphical analysis tools.
