LEO Spacecraft Operations Engineer Consultancy Support

LSE Space is looking for 3 experienced Engineers mf in order to fulfill the duty of LEO Spacecraft Operations Engineer Consultancy Support for our customer EUMETSAT in DarmstadtGermany. The position is to provide support to the Operations and Services to Users Department and will be part of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team. The key person shall be assigned and trained to provide operations expertise and support to one or more platform subsystems and or payload instruments, depending on his or her experience and the overall team needs. The key person shall also participate in coordinating the satellite operations activities of other team members and external teams responsible for onboard software management, simulator support, mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Furthermore, the key person shall support system and operations preparation activities for MetopC, for Metop Second Generation satellites and possibly also for Sentinel3 and Jason CS. The following activities shall be performed Support to the routine operations of Metop A, B and preparing for MetopC, comprising o Provision of operational expertise to one or more platform subsystems andor payload instruments andor onboard software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces. o Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment o Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary o Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Operations Support Entity in ESTEC and Industry o Support the coordination of partner agency interactions for relevant subsystemsinstruments o Participation in the satellite oncall support rota o Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Support to the system and operations preparation of Metop Second Generation satellites o Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts o Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals o Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites. Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites o Provide operations preparation support as required to the Sentinel3 and JasonCS developments. Qualifications Experience Spacecraft monitor and control operations Spacecraft operations preparation engineering Low Earth Orbit spacecraft design or Assembly Integration and Test activities at system or subsystem level. Inorbit operations of Low Earth Orbit Earth Observation satellites Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities The procedure development tool MOIS and the procedure execution language STOL The mission control systems EPOCH or SCOS Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with OnBoard Control Procedure and OnBoard Position Scheduler concepts Familiarity with the ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard, customisation and usage Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB File parsing languages such as PERL, AWK Use of VBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications. Academic and work related requirements A University degree in an engineering discipline is required. Perfect command of English, verbal and written. Knowledge of French would be an asset. DUTIES The incumbent will report to the Head of the EGSE and Ground Systems Section. The Sections core activity consists in providing support to ESA programmes in the area of Electrical Ground Support Equipment EGSE, the development of simulation and modelling infrastructure, including verification test benches for functional verification, software verification and validation facilities, EGSE procurement and ground facilities software in general.
