Section Overview Radio Navigation system GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO etc. and augmentation EGNOS, WAAS, QZSS etc. Study, analyses and testing of navigation algorithms, including tools development evaluation of Navigation Positioning Timing algorithm and techniques, user system segment performance assessment based on software simulators, laboratory and field measurements, and support to ESA projects in follow up of industrial procurements Radio Navigation equipments covering space applications Study, analysis and testing of navigation positioning ranging monitoring technology and receiver for space. Radio Navigation space applications performed at ESA including scientific applications atmospheric sounding, oceanic observation, formation flying, rendezvous and attitude determination Radio Navigation equipments for terrestrial applications Study, design, analysis and testing of navigation receivers technology for terrestrial applications and local augmentation. Radio Navigation terrestrial applications performed at ESA are those related with high performance based on high accuracy e.g. geodesy and or high integrity e.g. civil aviation, maritime Radio Navigation signals and signal processing Study, design, analysis and testing of signal and signal processing techniques including tools equipment development and procurement. It encompasses signal structure, modulations, data dissemination, techniques for error correction, synchronisation, multipath mitigation and estimation, interference mitigation, cancellation, encryption, authentication, etc. Radio Navigation Laboratory equipments Study, definition procurement design, testing, usage of Radio Navigation equipment in support to Radio Navigation experiments and test campaigns. Tasks and Responsibilities The Key Person will have the following tasks Supporting and followup the procurements actions and industry contracts with regard to the implementation of elements in the GMS Operational Chain, mainly MSF, VTP MTPF, their subsystems and any other relevant facility and relevant datadevelopment and modifications Evaluation of contractors GMS element designs as part of the GMS Operational Chain, in the areas of monitoring control of Galileo assets, archiving, realtime and offline mission monitoring, mission uplink and control, mission support, training, maintenance, identification of design deficiencies and identification of required solutions Contribution of all GMS and System reviews, and meetings for all topics related to GMS Operational Chain activities Contribution to the GMS overall Engineering activities, requirements engineering, change management and baseline evolutions DCP DCNs, assessments of RED RFWs, HW SW COTS, AIV support etc. Supporting the assessment of overall GMS operability and integrated logistic support ILS aspects of the GMS functions, including the verification of the related operational procedures and the support to Operations related to operability and ILS aspects Supporting Integration, Verification and Qualification, IVQ, activities in the area of the Operability Chain Facilities, ensuring followup and monitoring of Industry IVQ activities and participation to formal verification activities, I.E. For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a GMES Sentinel Flight Operations Segment Engineer. Tasks and Responsibilities The tasks to be accomplished in the job, which requires highly developed spacecraft system operations engineers skills, will cover space segment OPS engineering activities related to Requirements analysis and operational concept development Definition and production of the ground mission data, covering operations documentation sets, in cooperation with the facility and domain experts. This will include GCPs, SCPs and Operations Guides. Definition and implementation of the procedure tree Operations engineering support to the FOS IVV Operations System Validation of the ground segment Interactions with mission planning, FDS, controller teams, ground segment procurement teams Supporting the definition of the operations interfaces with external entities Participation in rehearsal and simulation campaigns Raising and tracking of Anomaly Reports, including investigations into spacecraft level anomalies and regression testing of associated fixes Participation in any necessary meetings and reviews with external partners Support to space segment operations preparation e.g., in case of manoeuvre planning, rehearsal and training, etc. Interactions with Simulator and training officer, for team proficiency training, rehearsal and simulation. Support to Space Segment mission operations data production and validation Operations teams build up and training Interaction with ESOC during LEOP and Satellite InOrbit Validation operations Support to System commissioning operations Please note that the job foresees some periods of special working conditions, described as follows. Standbycallout support During periods of standby support, the Engineer shall respond to calls by provided telephone or beeper outside normal working hours within 10 minutes of the initial contact, and shall provide remote support to Operations. The Engineer may, by telephone, ascertain the nature of the problem but shall be available, if required, to report to the Mission Control Centre within one hour of callout. A total of 540 standby hours and 20 callout support hours during the LEOP and IOV are foreseen Launch or Operations Campaign support It is expected that during this period working time may exceed the normal daily working hours or involve work on public holidays or weekends. Such period will be declared as launch campaign with one month notice. A total of 28 launch campaign days of 12 hours work each will be required. Shift operations support For certain periods, the Engineer may be required to support operations in a 2x12 hours shift pattern morning and evening shifts possibly involving work on public holidays or weekends. Please note that up to one additional hour for the operations shift instruction handover is required and should be taken into account. Shift requests will be given with one week notice. A total of 4 shifted working days during the LEOP is foreseen. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the personnel responsible for performing this service shall have at least 5 years of experience of spacecraft and related ground segment operations, in particular Experience of Ground Segment System Operations to support Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3Axis Stabilised Spacecraft with key expertise in one or more areas of the ground segment areas e.g. System, MC, Flight Dynamics, Simulator, TTC station, interfaces during operation preparation, LEOP, commissioning and routine operations phases, Development and maintenance of complex operational ground systems, preferably for remote sensing spacecraft System and Interfaces Engineering AIT experience for the development of major upgrades new ground systems in a high availability 247 operational environment Satellite monitoring and control systems Full development cycle of large systems, from the definition of requirements to system design and operations Investigation into anomalies, their documentation, classification and correctionmitigation, participation in Anomaly Review Boards and, where applicable, Operations Incident investigation and review activities Familiarity with the ECSS standards. Experience with development and validation of operational ground segment and associated operations procedures for nominal and contingency recovery cases. Familiarity with procedure Change control and configuration management of ground segment operational systems. The SSyOE will provide support to the operations preparation for recurrent S3 satellites into the existing systems. The SSyOE will interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade, where this affects the S3 ground segment and system operations.
