The work is mostly executed in a typical office environment, but the hardware is handled in our own clean rooms, electrical labs, propulsion labs, and environmental labs. So being comfortable in a typical engineering officeproject environment, whilst also being comfortable in a lab environment, is very important. Team working and ability to work autonomously are key to a typical day. Job description For our customer, the European Space Agency ESA, we are seeking an experienced Space Systems Engineer to work at ESAs ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Responsibilities You will be assigned to support the Exploration, Preparation and Research Technology ExPeRT Team in the Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration HRE. The team conducts system studies, initially focusing on robotic and human lunar exploration demonstration missions, that will prepare for later exploration missions and the technology needed to deliver them, including the first round trip European mission to the planets. This covers technology areas such as advanced propulsion, novel energy sources, life support, autonomynavigationartificial intelligence, insitu resources, and radiation protection and mitigation. You will act as supporting System Engineer with the following tasks Leadingsupporting the implementation of ESA internal and industrial system definition studies at Phase 0AB1 level, including associated payload and technology development activities, preparing future European activities and projects in the field of human and robotic exploration, addressing missions to Low Earth Orbit, Moon or Mars. Interfacing with study scientists and study science teams. Education Masters degree or equivalent qualification in Physics or a relevant engineering subject. Required skills and experience A background in space mission analysis and definition. At least four years relevant experience working in planetary mission systems engineering is required. Experience of minimum 4 years in space missions systems engineering is desirable.
