VN1302 Leading a team of engineers, you will manage industrial contracts to maintain and evolve continuously our operational data processing technology, applications and functions of our ground systems. At the same time, you will coordinate engineering support for all ground system engineering activities in data processing and software system engineering, whilst achieving cuttingedge expertise. To this end, you will drive forward wideranging upgrades, set the highest standards in realtime data collection and act as the technical point of contact for partner organisations, whilst mentoring and developing colleagues from a variety of disciplines. Qualified to degree level in an appropriate subject, you will bring extensive experience of engineering and maintaining largescale software systems in a highly available operational environment. Ideally you will possess a background in spacebased ground segment data processing production systems, and you will certainly be familiar with managing high value contracts, the engineering processes for requirements management and leading professional teams. Finally, you should possess broad knowledge of meteorological andor earth observation technologies and of engineering standards, and be fully fluent in English with a basic working knowledge of French. This vacancy note concerns a consulting position at ESAC in Madrid, Spain. Software Engineer for Science Data Processing CHESAC13005 Job Description The ESAC team is forming Gaias Science Operations Centre SOC and is heavily involved in Gaia Data Processing and Analysis especially in the overall architecture and the core processing. The processing is distributed over five locations and ESAC will form the hub for data exchange via the Main Database. This main database will form the input for all processing and will be augmented with the output of all processing to arrive at a new version. The candidate should be aware of required documentation for a large project. Experience working with large data volumes, ICDs, data dictionaries would be an asset. A scientific background is a strong advantage.
