Lights out for Weather Channel for Verizon FiOS Customers

Verizon wants to cut down on content costs and said that customers are increasingly getting their weather information on phone apps and online. Verizon Communications Inc. said in a notice on its website that The Weather Channel's contract ran out and was not renewed for its 5.6 million FiOS TV customers.

Verizon Communications (NYSE, Nasdaq: VZ) has results for the fourth quarter of 2014. In the quarter, Verizon added 116,000 net new FiOS Video connections. Verizon had a total of 5.6 million FiOS Video connections at year-end.

Boston Verizon FiOS subscribers lose access to local Fox channel

Boston-area Verizon customers found themselves cut off from one kind of Thanksgiving bird on Thursday: the Eagles football team. Subscribers to Verizon Communications Inc.'s FiOS cable TV service in Boston lost access to Fox's local affiliate station due to a fee dispute with Cox Media Group, which owns the station, according to a Verizon email to customers.
