Summary An opportunity for an experienced Telecoms Engineer with experience in the development of satellite platform equipment to work onsite at ESA Harwell for Telespazio VEGA UK. Objective To be responsible for monitoring performance and engineering aspects of satellite platform, with a focus on mechanicalstructuralthermal aspects. Responsibilities Duties The Platform Engineer reports primarily to the Quantum Platform Manager in the Telecommunications and Integrated Applications Directorate, Telecommunication Satellite Programme Department. Duties will include but are not limited to Monitoring platform units development, integration and testing Monitoring the coherent and costeffective implementation of platform requirements from system level down to the lower application level Working in Partnership with the Satellite Operators to ensure that the platform equipment development proceeds in a timely and pragmatic manner whilst maintaining the original innovative nature of the platform and the supplier working methods. Working with the industrial team to ensure that the design and performance of platform meets its specified requirements, including software, subsystem and unit performances Monitoring and ensuring that the platform interfaces are consistent with the Payload and system and quality aspects. Ensuring the adequacy of relevant operational requirements to control and operate the platform Analysing predicted performance parameters of platform and monitoring these throughout the project phases Supporting platform and lowerlevel reviews, as well as supporting spacecraft level reviews and any nonconformance reviews. Regular reporting to his Platform Manager In the execution of the tasks, the Platform Engineer will liaise closely and proactively with the rest of the Quantum Project team as well as with other Project Teams within the Telecommunications Satellite Programmes Department. Qualifications Experience MSc in Engineeringphysics or equivalent Extensive experience in the development of satellite platform equipment in the sphere of telecommunications. Systems and strategic thinking, results orientation, responsible risktaking decisionmaking, and relationship management are considered important. The successful candidate should demonstrate proven technical capabilities, in particular in the mechanicalstructural engineering field, and the capacity to apply analytical and sound judgment to resolve problems pragmatically. Essential Skills Proficient in the English language spoken and written Teamwork and strong interpersonal skills Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, resourcefulness and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of another ESA member state language is an asset. Summary An exciting opportunity for an experienced software engineer with experience of ESA missions to work for Telespazio VEGA onsite at ESTEC. Objective To provide on demand expertise in activities related to EGSE systems. Responsibilities Duties The engineer will be assigned to the EGSE and Ground Systems Section of the Software Systems Division. To provide on demand expertise in activities related to EGSE systems. Tasks will include but are not limited to Project such as EarthCare support on the procurement, development and utilisation of EGSE systems, including problem solving, interfaces with external systems and project reviews. Support on RD studies, specifically related to the European Ground System Common Core EGSCC, and Standardization activities in the EGSE domain Maintenance and future developments of the EGSE Reference Facility as part of the Software Systems Laboratory. This includes Integrating industrial elements in the EGSE reference facility and verifying their functioning in end to end scenarios, maintaining an EGSE software libraryconfiguration managementlab website, evaluate needs and generate requirements for enhancements. Qualifications Experience A MSc or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline. Extensive practical experience of implementing complex systems, in developing and utilizing EGSEs, in modelling monitoring and control data in compliance with the ESA SCOS monitoring and control systems. Knowledge of modern software engineering practices and standards applied to realtime systems. Knowledge of Space Systems and Space System Engineering is necessary Essential Skills Software engineering and objectoriented programming realtime software UML, XML Operating systems e.g. Linux, Windows SCOS 2000 and the SCOS 2000 MIB ICD Experience with the PUS and its tailoring Qualities Be able to function as part of a team Because of the operational nature of the support, a proactive and flexible attitude will be required.
