Summary A fantastic opportunity for a qualified engineer with a background in optical instrumentation simulators processors to work for Telespazio VEGA UK on site at ESTEC. Objective To support the Ground System Definition Verification Office in preparation for the commissioning phase CP which aims at validating the instruments and products, Responsibilities Duties A HW and SW infrastructure has to be established to assess and simulate the optical and the topographic instruments. This infrastructure will consist of instrument simulators SPS and prototype Ground Segment processors GPP, provided through the Industrial consortium, plus additional tools necessary to perform commissioning tasks for geolocation, coregistration, storage of products, etc, which need to be identified and made available by the Agency. On top of the HWSW infrastructure, test procedures shall be developed, which prepare the activities defined to be executed during the CP. This shall include means to react in a flexible way to contingencies. Preparation of scenarios, rehearsal and replanning of activities are foreseen as well. In particular the tasks include Operate and control the instrument simulators and data processors HW SW infrastructure, including task preparation in the perspective of rehearsalscommissioning activities Generation of instruments simulated Packets using instrument simulators SPS Generation of Optical and Topography products using processors GPP Analysis of results on packet level visavis a defined success criteria Analysis of SW anomalies Support the preparation and execution of the Ground System Validation GSV Support to specifications of expected anomaly corrections and MMI improvements Implement the nominal and contingency test procedures for the execution of the activities defined in the CP tasks During CP, being responsible for the execution of the test procedures Support the preparation and execution of the handover process between development and operations Qualifications Experience A MSc or equivalent qualification in Physics or Engineering Experience with simulators and processing chain for optical scanner and pushbroom instruments ENVISATMERIS, SPOT or similar Experience with simulators and processing chain for altimeter systems JASON, Cryosat Experienceknowledge in Satellite environment, Ground System and remote sensing in general System management on Linux systems Red Hat, Ubuntu Software development experience Essential Skills Verification and calibration of optical instruments processors Software development C, Python Fluent in the English language spoken and written Desirable Skills Software development Matlab, IDL Knowledge of other European languages is an asset Further Details All roles within Telespazio VEGA have a defined closing date, however if a successful candidate is found before the advert expires the role will be closed early. Summary An exciting opportunity for an experienced software engineer with experience of ESA missions to work for Telespazio VEGA onsite at ESTEC. Objective To contribute to evolution and the maintenance of the MAPPS software and provide 1st line support to the SOCs mission planners and scientific users. Responsibilities Duties Within the EGSE and Ground Systems Section, support is provided to the Science Operations Centres SOCs of the current and future ESA planetary missions, such as Rosetta, BepiColombo, Solar Orbiter, ExoMars 2016 and JUICE. This support includes the development of planning and simulation tools and in particular of MAPPS, which in use by the MarsExpress and VenusExpress missions and is currently being adapted for use by the Rosetta mission The engineer will be assigned in a small team, to contribute to evolution and the maintenance of the MAPPS software, as well as to provide firstline support to the SOCs mission planners and scientific users, based at ESAC Madrid. The engineer will be assigned to the EGSE and Ground Systems Section of the Software Systems Division and shall function as an integrated team member of the development team, in charge of the following initial tasks Implementation of new MAPPS features, especially in the area of the Graphical User Interface, but also in backend processing software. Verification and validation of the software and execution of the test procedures. Further evolution of the test software, e.g. extending the test cases to cover new features and improving the level of automation. Providing the MAPPS software deliveries following the existing maintenance and release procedures. Improving these procedures where needed also considering the long lifetime of the software. Provide firstline user support e.g. helping the user configuring and using any new features, analysing potential bugs and providing fixes. May require travels to the ESAESAC, Madrid facility for the integration of the product into the Science Operation Center. Qualifications Experience A MSc or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline. 5 years of experience as a software engineer with space systems engineering experience Essential Skills Software engineering and objectoriented programming Programming languages CC andor others Graphical User Interface programming Qt toolkit, others Software Engineering Standards such as the ECSSEST40C Software bug reporting systems e.g. Mantis, JIRA, etc Software versioning systems, such as CVS, SVN and GIT Windows and Linux, others Desirable Skills Knowledge of Space Systems and Space System Engineering will be an asset Experience with operational software development will be an advantage Qualities Be able to function as part of a team. Because of the operational nature of the support, a proactive and flexible attitude will be required.
