SPE's Automotive Division has selected finalists for its 2015 Automotive Innovation Awards Competition. Finalists were selected in areas of: aftermarket, body exterior, body interior, chassis/hardware, environmental, materials, powertrain, process/assembly/enabling technologies, and safety. Nominated parts must be on vehicles that are in production during 2015 calendar year. Category winners and grand winner will be announced during Innovation Awards & Gala on Nov 11.

SPE Initiatives nurtures upcoming plastics professionals.

On October 22, SPE announced its strategy to draw more young people into industry and SPE itself. SPE Managing Director Russell C. Broome said initiatives undertaken by SPE "have made young people more aware of career opportunities in plastics, increased support for students seeking technical and professional training, and made first-time participation in industry activities easier and more attractive." Broome also cited student membership in SPE as "at least 17%" of total membership.

SPE Calls for Nominations for Thermoformer of the Year award.

Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Thermoforming Division announced its call for nominations for annual Thermoformer of the Year award, which recognizes individuals who have made significant industry-related technical, educational, or managerial contributions. Nominees will be evaluated and reviewed by the SPE Thermoforming Division Board of Directors during its Winter Board Meeting in February, and nomination deadline is December 15, 2015.

Allan Lee Joins SPE as IT operations manager.

Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) appointed Allen Lee as operations manager for information technology (IT). In that position, Lee will manage all applications and integrations for SPE websites, apps, association management systems, email marketing automation, and external communication platforms. He will also be in charge of internal network, software, and cloud-based services for SPE’s global staff. Lee comes to SPE from American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
