China Unicom, Telecom confirm plans to cooperate on 5G network build

(Telecompaper) China Unicom and China Telecom have confirmed plans to cooperate on building a national 5G network. They plan to co-build one 5G access network nationwide, with each operator taking responsibility for construction in certain regions. The cooperation is expected to accelerate the roll-out of 5G services and reduce costs.

SK Telecom and Samsung together realise 8K TV powered by 5G

SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) has announced that it has signed an MOU with Samsung to jointly develop and commercialize the worlds first 5G-8K TV. The TV will direct receive 8K video over SK Telecoms ultra-low latency and ultra-wideband 5G network.

SK Telecom passes 1 million 5G subscribers milestone

(Telecompaper) South Korean operator SK Telecom announced it has passed the milestone of 1 million 5G subscribers in the first 140 days since the launch of its 5G network on 3 April. The company's 5G subscribers account for more than 3.5 percent of SK Telecom's total subscriber base of 28 million.

Skype registers as telecom operator in Netherlands after EU court ruling

(Telecompaper) Skype has started registering with EU telecom regulators, after the EU Court of Justice ruled in June that SkypeOut should be considered a telecom service. Dutch regulator ACM announced that Skype has registered for regulatory oversight in the Netherlands.
