ASHRAE LowDown Showdown seeks participants for conference.

After success and popularity of first modeling challenge, ASHRAE LowDown Showdown will be part of ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA SimBuild 2016 Conference, Aug 10–12. Modeling challenge showcases work of several teams competing to model a net zero or below building. Competition gives conference attendees opportunity to work with vendors and developers to showcase their abilities using vendor’s simulation tools, innovative workflows, and creative problem solving to model a high performance building.

ASHRAE recognizes members for outstanding achievements.

During 2016 Winter Conference, 54 people were recognized for contributions to ASHRAE and the industry. F. Paul Anderson Award, ASHRAE’s highest for technical achievement in the HVAC&R field, was given to Presidential Member Thomas E. Watson, Fellow ASHRAE, Life Member, and director of the Daikin Learning Institution. Some other categories included ASHRAE Hall of Fame, Fellow ASHRAE, ASHRAE Technology Awards, Student Design Competition awards, and E.K. Campbell Award of Merit.

ASHRAE Application automates 90.1-2010 compliance calculations.

Accessible from desktop, tablet, or other device, 90.1 ECB web application leverages Energy Cost Budget (ECB) method to automate calculations needed to show building project compliance with ANSI/ASHRAE/IES 90.1-2010, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. Modeling compliance tool lets users input project parameters and calculates proposed design's projected performance and compliance. Results may be exported in workable spreadsheet for project use.

ASHRAE Issues Call for Programs for its 2016 Annual Conference.

Programs are sought for ASHRAE's 2016 Annual Conference, which will be held in St Louis, MO from June 25–29 and feature several topic-specific tracks. Types of programs being sought include seminars, which include 1–4 presentations on similar topic; workshops, which allow equal time for 1–2 presentations and discussion; as well as forums – discussion-based sessions without any presentations. Call for programs (non-paper based presentations) is open through February 8, 2016.

ASHRAE Winter Conference addresses residential systems.

Scheduled for Jan 23–27, ASHRAE 2016 Winter Conference will include Technical Program featuring 8 tracks, 100 sessions, and more than 300 speakers. During High Performance Residential Building Applications and Issues seminar, experts from natural gas industry, U.S. Department of Energy, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will describe results of their decades of real-world experience measuring and understanding behavior of energy efficient airtight houses.
