A vacancy for a Systems Design Authority has arisen at Airbus Defence and Space, Stevenage. The role will form part of the Systems Design Authority SDA team. This team are the responsible engineers for their specific focus of product, technology or network, owning the design baseline and providing service design consultancy to the Engineering teams. The SDA will typically engage at the preparation for PDR stage of the project and will be a key member of the design process as the design progresses. The role is key to Airbus Defence and Space service delivery enabling project timelines and revenue. The role holder will be expected to oversee the integrity of engineered and documented designs. Ownership of assigned design baselines are key and the role holder will be expected to champion and represent the engineering disciplines during the high pressure project environment in order to avoid early life failures of the customer service. As the technical reference in the Engineering teams, its important that the role holder is pro active in highlighting and recommending solutions to technical requirements and issues. Occasional travel is expected to the Ground Station installations and customer locations in the UK. As part of the role there may also be a requirement to travel to customer installations overseas. Engineering degree or equivalent expert level qualifications specialisations The range of skills required across the SDA team is wide, they are expected to provide expert level support to the business in the following example areas IP, VOIP and MPLS systems. Satellite communications systems. Encryption devices including DCAP, Mini Catapan and Ectocryp. Serial communication protocols. Test methods and good practise.

Manage the LCA database specific for space activities and the related tool for CDF use Manage the LCA Handbook for the possible future updates Requirements Previous experience in Life Cycle Assessment focused in space is required. Understanding of the Clean Space activities performed by the Agency would be a distinctive advantage.

Responsibilities You will be assigned to the Systems and Concurrent Engineering Section TECSYE within the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management. Qualifications Competencies The successful candidate will have A Masters level degree in an engineering discipline or the technical sciences and at least 4 years relevant professional experience ideally gained in the space industry. Relevant practical knowledge and experience in space mission design, feasibility studies, and the related informatics tools. Concurrent Engineering applied to space mission assessment and design, system design modelling tools. You will be supporting Life Cycle Assessment tasks and the organisation and execution of concurrent engineering studies in cooperation with technical specialists, project teams and industry.
