Ground Station Engineer

This position will be responsible for the interface definition and procurement of the ground station network service required to support ispaces lunar missions. ispace is a leading microrobotics Japanese company with a subsidiary in the United States and another in Europe. ispaces Hakuto rover won the Google XPRIZE mobility milestone award and is a leading contender for the 20M Grand Prize. ispaces lunar lander is its next step towards prospecting for, mining and utilizing lunar resources to expand human presence in space. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge base in Ground Station requirements, design, operations and maintenance. The candidate is also required to have a good understanding of Ground Stations Monitoring and Control, satellite operations and experience in managing a service level agreement with Ground Station providers. Key Responsibilities Support the requirement definition for the ispace Ground Station Network Establish service level agreements with external providers Computation and maintenance of link budgets Review and analysis of ground station operational configuration and procedures, ensuring compliance with mission requirements Support the definition of the ground station network validation plan, including RF compatibility verification tests, tracking campaigns and station performance tests Followup on the Ground Station providers activities in particular the followup on the onsite activities Participation in the Ground Stations provider reviews SRR, PDR, CDR, ORR Define the interfaces with the ground stations, establishing the corresponding ICDs Support verification and Validation activities of the interfaces with the Ground Stations Support the development of a Ground Station Monitoring and Control tool Support the Ground Station Network Integration with the rest of the ispace Ground Segment e.g. Mission Control System, Flight Dynamics, Ground Station Monitoring and Control system Service performance monitoring supporting anomaly tracking and investigation Support Ground Station operational procedure production Support the ispace operational phase, coordinating the ground station operations execution, planning and scheduling Basic Qualifications Masters degree in Telecommunication Engineering or equivalent Five or more years experience in Ground Station procurement, Operations andor maintenance. Experience in requirement engineering and design review Knowledge of Ground Station components, including Baseband and RF Experience in space to ground link budget calculation Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills Familiarity with the modulation and coding schemes used in space communications Preferred Experience Knowledge of space communication standards, in particular CCSDS, and Space Link Extension SLE Experience with supporting Ground Station operations activities including LEOP, Commissioning, Routine for interplanetary missions

Ground station system design for TTC and payload operations Ground station tracking antennas and RF subsystems LEO and GEO applications Ground station baseband subsystems including modulationdemodulation and coding. Ground Station Engineer, Darmstadt, Germany Competitive salary and relocation assistance available An opportunity has arisen for a lead Ground Station Engineer to join Thorn SDS, working on our clients site at the European Space Operations Centre ESOC, in Darmstadt, Germany. We are passionate about delivering Space Programs with our partners and you will work in an international environment, with team members from many European States and beyond. We are looking for an Engineer to be responsible for the maintenance and operation of one of ESAs Ground Stations. You will be the technical lead for one of the prestigious ESTRACK facilities based in Scandinavia, maintaining the links between the satellite in orbit and ESOC. You will collaborate with your colleagues to ensure that it remains operational. This role may require an occasional oncall response. As part of this role, you will work with the onsite Maintenance, Operations and Engineering teams based at ESOC.
