Polyester chain prices have begun last week retreating over a sharp decline of crude oil prices. PTA and MEG prices are not expected bottoming out in the coming period. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Eastern Asia and in India, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono-ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices. Asian Contract Prices (ACPs) are also available for the PX, PTA and MEG markets in Asia, with 5-year charts and downloadable historical data.

Bridgestone has upped its bid for US auto service chain Pep Boys, after a competing offer from American investor Carl Icahn threatened to derail the Japanese firm's takeover plans. The merger would make Bridgestone a major player in the US car maintenance business, in direct competition with Icahn's Auto Plus chain.

OEMs need to re-think the way they manage their demand for electronics components if they are to handle the risks inherent in an increasingly complex supply chain, a speaker from STMicroelectronics told a conference hosted by Future Electronics in Leipzig last month. Alberto Della Chiesa, vice-president for supply chain solutions at STMicroelectronics, pointed out that e-commerce retailers such as Amazon have opened to the market and to consumers the possibility of next-day delivery of almost any electronics device.
