Yarn prices are dropping further in China, although very slowly, amid falling demand from downward processors. Coming trends will depend on the level of fiber prices. Profit margins are significantly falling at most plants of the polyester chain in Asia, putting an end to the decline of prices observed in the last months. With larger capacities due to emerge in the next year, prices could be pressured further, however. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Asia, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices. Polyester prices are not expected to decline further in December in China, as production should be reduced by maintenance operations. The weakness in demand could limit any recovery in prices, however. Our weekly report covers the Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF) on the domestic markets in China, India, and Pakistan. Spun yarn prices have continued to rise in the past week in India, although fiber prices are currently declining. The poor quality of the new crop is forcing spinners in importing cotton from other origins, whereas cotton exports are struggling at the same time. Our weekly review of Indian yarn prices covers the domestic and export markets, including carded and combed cotton, poly-cotton, poly-viscose, 100% polyester, and 100% viscose.
