(Telecompaper) Satellite shares were particularly strong last week, anticipating 5G-related windfalls from spectrum holdings in the US: Intelsat (+17%), SES (+15%), Inmarsat (+9.3%), Eutelsat (+4.5%) and also Iridium (+7.3%). The weakest shares included Turk Telekom (-16%) and Turkcell (-13%), as well as Finnish Elisa (-10%) reporting on Q2, leaving investors disappointed in the reported growth.

(Telecompaper) Last week's share price performances were positive enough to bring our European telecoms index back to a level we hadn't seen since the middle of May. Veon was the absolute winner, followed by Turk Telekom (+12%). The three Belgain shares in our basket showed strong recovery from recent weakness: Telenet (+12%), Proximus (+7.7%) and Orange BE (+6.9%). We also recorded some double digit losses, for Telekom Slovenije, Inmarsat and Polish Play Communications (-11%).

Swedish telecoms regulator publishes invitation for 700 MHz auction

(Telecompaper) Swedish communications regulator PTS has published its invitation to the 700 MHz frequency band auction, which has an application deadline of 05 November and is expected to begin on 04 December. It will award seven permits in the auction of 60 MHz spectrum. PTS is capping the amount any one player may win to 40 MHz, thereby ensuring there will be at least two licence holders in the 700 MHz band.
