US apparel imports from China may have recovered in the first three quarters in volume terms, they have dropped in value terms with other countries gaining new shares of the market. China has also suffered a setback in many categories, in both volume and value terms. This is reflected by our statistical review comparing US apparel imports from China with shipments from Rest of the World (RoW) for every category of products, in volume, value and unit value terms. Historical data cover the first half of the past five years, from 2012-2017.

After months of record-setting volume as retailers stocked up for a busy holiday season, imports at major US retail container ports should be essentially flat this month compared with the same time last year as warehouses are full in anticipation of the key holiday trading season.

US imports of cotton apparel have continued dropping in the first three quarters of the year, whereas man-made fiber apparel imports were again rising. Imports have however slowed down in third quarter, even in man-made fiber apparel categories, as reflected by our detailed analysis of US apparel imports per category. Our series of statistical tables offer a comprehensive view of volume, value and unit value changes, compared with previous quarters and years in 2011-17. US ramps up spotlight on North Korea forced labour imports
