Imports at major US retail container ports are expected to remain significantly below last year's levels into this autumn as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic continues.

US apparel imports have collapsed in May, as a result of the lockdown imposed by many countries and by a series of US states. Vietnam has become the largest supplier in value terms over the January-May period, whereas Bangladesh has also benefited from China's setback. Our report covers US apparel imports on a monthly basis, comparing shipments from most origins in the last month and the year-to-date. Import data are available in volume, value, and unit value terms. Historical trends are analyzed over the 2000-2020 period, including cotton vs. man-made fiber apparel, and China vs. Vietnam and the Rest of the World (RoW).

UK Clothing Imports in 1st Quarter 2020: Origins (Quarterly Report)

UK's apparel imports have dropped significantly in the first quarter in volume terms, as unit values were surging in the meantime. Bangladesh has become the largest supplier to the detriment of a retreating China, especially in woven clothing categories. Imports of T-shirts have surged, whereas shipments of woven shirts were plummeting. Our new quarterly report covers UK's clothing imports per origin, including knit clothing, woven clothing, and total clothing imports. Data are released in volume, and in British pounds. All data are available for download in five different CSV files.

US apparel imports tumble by more than one-fifth in May

US apparel imports were down by more than a fifth month-on-month in May as the global garment industry continued to crumble under the destructive weight of Covid-19. However, there appears to have been a resurgence from Central American and Mexican suppliers during the month as retailers appear to have turned to those closest to home amid the reopening of stores.
