Space Applications Services NVSA performs systemsoftware engineering for the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies and the aerospace industry. We are involved in international manned unmanned space craft programme, earth observation, science, exploration, communications and related technology development. We have a vacancy for a person wishing to join the Control and Data Centres team in Java Software Engineer for the Space Industry MF JSESYSCDC201701HQ002 Tasks and Responsibilities The successful candidate will join the Control and Data Centres team, whose activities cover the development of ground control systems, controlling the experiments done on board of the International Space Station, and different future space crafts, as well as the development of space weather related systems. The relevant activity for this position is the development of mission control systems for future unmanned and manned spacecrafts. In this activity, the software will be developed in the team according to detailed requirements, while following space related standards. Together with your colleagues, you will be responsible for the development of the system following the full software development cycle, including the production of high level documentation and while adhering the relevant standards. Qualifications and Experience For this position, you must have a 4 or 5 years University Degree Masters level in a relevant discipline like Computer Science, ICT engineering or equivalent. 2 to 5 years of experience in design and development of software implemented in Java. Exceptional young graduates will be considered. Experience with the full software development lifecycle. Competent in writing highquality software project documentation in English. Good knowledge of Linux systems as a user and administrator. Good understanding of IP networks, firewalls, VPN, PKI, routing. Open Source Server environment OpenLDAP, FTP, Samba. The following capabilities will be considered as an advantage for the position Experience with Python and Django. Knowledge of CCSDS protocols Packets, CFDP, MO, SLE. Knowledge and experience with ECSS E40 standard. Candidates will have the following skills Flexible and capable to work in a fastpaced environment. Summary of the role The Data Flow Infrastructure group DFI within the Science Operations Software department SCS is responsible for developing and maintaining software components, which are critical for the endtoend operations of the ESO Observatories. The Data Flow Infrastructure software includes tools for proposal submission, observation preparation and execution, archive ingestion and retrieval, data organization and execution of data reduction pipelines. We are looking for a consultant to develop and maintain software applications and services supporting the operational and scientific requirements of the EELT and VLT dataflow. In addition to the core SW development, the assigned tasks require requirements analysis in periodic interaction with project scientists, test automation, software integration, deployment and enduser support. Reporting to the dataflow project manager and to the DFI group head, the consultant will be assigned to the further development of the Science Archive Facility, following an agile, featuredriven development process. He or she is also expected to contribute to other activities within the Dataflow project team, quickly adapting to the changing needs of our dynamic environment. Requirements The ideal consultant is a software engineer with a minimum of 3 years professional experience in software development. He or she will be able to support the full software development life cycle, from requirements gathering, design and implementation, to deployment and maintenance. Dataflow software developers are expected to write clear and concise developer and userlevel documentation. Team spirit, customer orientation and a strong sense for quality development are essential.
