The Space Research and Planetary Sciences Division of the University of Bern has been granted funding to lead the CHEOPS Space Telescope. The CHEOPS payload consists of a single instrument, a 30 cm optical telescope performing high precision photometry. The mission will be the European Space Agencys first Sclass mission. Launch is planned for December 2017. The institute is furthermore involved in a number of other space instruments. We are responsible for the overall systems engineering for the CHEOPS space telescope and seek an engineer with competence in electrical, software, and controls System Engineer Electrical and Software domain lead HeShe shall support the development of the electrical and software subsystems, as well as the integration and test of the flight instrument in our AIV facility at the University of Bern. Most components of the electrical subsystem are provided by consortium members, but our institute is responsible for the instrument at system level. The position would entail Responsibility for the Electrical Subsystem functionality, including software performance Definition and maintenance of electrical and software requirements and interface definitions Analysis and design of OBDH on board data handling subsystem Support AIV and test of electrical and software components and EGSE Analysis of instrument performance and development of operations procedures The electrical domain lead reports to the System Engineer Experience with complex projects is required At least a year experience with space projects and knowledge of the ECSS standard would be an advantage The working language within the division is German, but English is also frequently used, especially for project meetings and documentation. Therefore good English language skills are a must. A degree in electrical or software engineering is desired. The position is available immediately. Employment will follow kantonale Richtlinien of the University of Bern. Applications should be sent to Mrs. W. Wang Tel. 41031 631 56 99 per EMail or Mail wei.wangcsh.unibe.ch, Space Research and Planetary Sciences Division, Physikalisches Institut, University of Bern, Sidlerstrasse 5, CH3012 Bern. The CHEOPS payload consists of a single instrument, a 30 cm optical telescope performing high precision photometry. The mission will be the European Space Agencys first Sclass mission. Launch is planned for December 2017. The instrument is divided into several subsystems provided by international consortium members. We are responsible for the telescope structure procurement and for the overall system engineering as well as instrument AIV in our facilities. The division is also building instruments for a number of other missions. To help meet these challenges, we are now seeking an experienced System Engineer mechanical domain lead. The Space Research and Planetary Sciences Division houses a construction bureau currently comprising 15 mechanical engineers plus technical support and apprentices. The CHEOPS team in particular already comprises a person in charge of detailed FEM modeling, an engineer in charge for performing the testAIV activities, a mechanical designer and a thermal designer. The advertised position would entail The Mechanical domain lead is responsible for the instrument mechanical performances and reports to the instrument system engineer. Issue and maintain internal and external CHEOPS instrument and subsystems mechanical requirements documents for the instrument structure. Maintain the instrument mechanical interface control document of the instrument, incl. thermal and mechanical budgets. Manage instrumentinternal and external mechanical and thermal interfaces. Monitor subsystem mechanical and thermal activities performed by consortium members Supervise the procurement of telescope structure and monitor design, manufacturing and AIV activities performed by industry. Issue and maintain AIV plan and verification control document Overviewsupport instrument AIV activities, incl. the realization of the dedicated infrastructure. Experience with complex projects is required and familiarity with space projects and knowledge of the ECSS standard would be an advantage.
