Terma Space operates out of Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. Job description For our customer, ESA, we are seeking an experienced Robotics Autonomous Systems Engineer to work at ESAs ECSAT site in Harwell, Oxfordshire, UK. Responsibilities You will be assigned to support the Harwell Robotics and Autonomy Facility HRAF within the Directorate of Human Spaceflight Exploration DHRE. The HRAF concept has been initiated at ECSAT to answer the need of development, verification and validation of complex autonomous systems such as planetary rovers and other landed elements which are critical to enable future planetary exploration missions. In order to become operational for future exploration missions, HRAF will go through an implementation phase whose timing and process is currently under definition. This process is likely to start after a second pilot phase is completed in 2018 such that it is synced with possible Mars Sample Return rover applications i.e. the Sample Fetch Rover or equivalent lunar exploration scenarios. The support to be provided as an onsite service will consist of Support the HRAFrelated technology activities HRAF Pilot 2 HRAF EDLS distributed simulation federation and model driven engineering framework Overall development of the Virtual LaboratoryDigital Archiving for HRAF, in particular first operational tool implementation activity. Use of HRAF for the AMBITION activity Support ongoing technology development activities related to rover technologies and operations as well as future Mars related system studies, with particular focus on Sample Fetch Rover. Support the development of the Spaceship ECSAT, a new enterprise of the Exploration Programme, which is dedicated to initiate lowTRL Technology Readiness Level activities for verification and validation of autonomous systems in collaboration with industryinstitutes. This is a full time position located at the European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications ECSAT, Harwell, Oxfordshire, UK. The requested start of work is September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. Qualifications Competencies The successful candidate will have A university degree Masters or equivalent qualification in Aerospace Engineering, SystemSoftware Engineering, or related discipline. A background, with at least 4 years working experience, in space engineering including robotics and automation, system simulation, virtual prototyping, modelbased engineering or similar.. Knowledge of related tools and software languages such as SysML in the MagicDraw environment, XML, Java, C, MatlabSimulink, ROS Robot Operating System. Experience in distributed simulations and middleware technology HLA, CCSDS Mission Operations services, etc.. Experience with database development and maintenance. Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an asset. Experience with ESA system engineering tools like ESAAF Architecture Framework, OCDT Open Concurrent Design Tool would be useful. Prior experience with ESA developed robotics and simulations tools like 3DROV, 3DROC, SIMSAT is an asset. Ability to interface with and report to the customer with minimal supervision with a serviceoriented attitude. What can Terma Offer?
