For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Java EE Development, COTS Integration Database Administration Engineer. Tasks and Responsibilities The key person is expected to support mainly three key tasks. It is foreseen, that the detailed key tasks will include as a minimum Java EE Application Development main task Design, implement, maintain, test, document and deliver applications for all services based on Java, Java EE, Oracle Database and Oracle Web Center Content Management System following the full application development and maintenance cycle. COTS Application Maintenance regular low effort task with peaks Specify, customize, integrate and maintain clientserver based COTS systems and document the customisation and integration in the EUMETSAT environment e.g. FrontRange ITSM Service Desk Tool, Book Library System, Application Servers, HTTP Servers Upgrade patch Java, Java EE Apache releases. Oracle Database Administration regular low effort task with peaks Create, copy, move, convert database schemas assign needed database resources Create and import database dumps create extend required table spaces Create PLSQL scripts Liaise coordinate with the storage team for any database storage related tasks Liaise coordinate with the external contractor taking care of database installation, upgrade, patching monitoring Update related documentation. Furthermore the key person is expected to support the following tasks, but to a much lesser extent than the key tasks. It is foreseen, that the detailed tasks will include as a minimum General Tasks Provide third level support for existing applications, systems and services Gather and document user and system requirements constraints Document the tasks and deliverables according to EUMETSAT working practices Perform the related quality assurance, configuration and change management activities Contribute to project planning and reporting. Microsoft Access Database Maintenance Maintain, test and deliver applications based on Microsoft MS Access 200713. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a university degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent, the key person shall have as a prerequisite for Java EE Development At least 5 recent years professional experience in the design, implementation, integration, documentation and testing of Website and Intranet applications using Java EE 7 and Oracle databases 12c At least 3 recent years professional experience in developing with JSFFacelets, JSP Servlets At least 3 recent years professional experience in developing with JPA Hibernate, TopLink Professional experience in integrating applications in Oracle WebCenter Content 11g Knowledge of XHTML, CSS, Ajax, JavaScript, XML, XSTL Knowledge of Oracle SQL Knowledge of Oracle WebCenter Content 11g. General Tasks Knowledge of Windows Proven experience in formal documentation, preferably in a ISO 9000 certified project and service environment High degree of autonomy, good personal communication skills oral and writing and strong customeroriented approach to interact with EUMETSAT personnel. The work requires a team player with the ability to work efficiently in a small team environment. The variety of the tasks requires a high degree of autonomy and the ability to take your own initiatives. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. JOB DESCRIPTION ESAs Space Debris Office maintains a database containing information on the physical properties, orbital elements, results of dedicated analyses, etc., of manmade objects in outer space. This database, Database and Information System Characterising Objects in Space DISCOS, has been under continuous development and expansion since the early 90ies. It is deeply embedded in the operational activities from the Space Debris Office, e.g. the collision avoidance process for ESA satellites, and serves as a backbone for space debris studies undertaken within ESA or by industry and academia worldwide. The selected candidate shall provide onsite engineering support for tasks related to migrating DISCOS from its current implementation on an Oracle 10.2 database to a recent version of a PostgreSQL database. This migration is not limited to a content migration, but requires the migration of all related software interface for data ingestion and extraction, as well as an architectural redesign to circumvent known drawbacks of the current implementations. Responsibilities Duties Tasks The following activities shall be performed by the selected candidate Review of the current DISCOS database implementation and all related software programs and libraries for facilitating data ingestion and extraction from the database. Definition of a software architecture for a new relational database, based on PostgreSQL, maintaining all functionality of the current implementation of DISCOS, possibly including the use of a nonrelational database for the storage of files. Harmonisation and upgrade of all the database related software and interface libraries to use the newly developed database architecture. Qualifications Master degree in any related discipline Required knowledge The candidate shall have an MSc degree in software engineering and at least 3 years of experience applicable to the post. The candidate shall have a good expertise of the PCLinux, network services and protocols, and computer peripherals. The candidate shall have solid demonstrated experience with database administration The candidate shall be proficient in Linux, shell scripting languages, SQL, Python, and Perl.
