Tasks and Responsibilities As EGSE Software Engineer you will be assigned to the EGSE and Ground Systems Section of the Software Systems Division. You will provide on demand expertise in activities related to EGSE systems Maintenance and future developments of the EGSE Reference Facility as part of the Software Systems Laboratory. This includes software builds and integration of industrial elements to the EGSE reference facility as well as the functional verification in endtoend scenarios, maintenance of an EGSE software library configuration management lab website, evaluation of needs and generation of requirements for enhancements Project such as EarthCare support on the procurement, development and utilisation of EGSE systems, including problem solving, interfaces with external systems and project reviews Support on RD studies, specifically related to the European Ground System Common Core EGSCC, and Standardization activities in the EGSE domain. Requirements As successful candidate you should bring a university degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline and at least 4 years of postgraduate experience. You should also have extensive practical experience of implementing and building complex software systems, in developing and utilizing EGSEs, in modelling monitoring and control data in compliance with the ESA SCOS monitoring and control systems such as knowledge of modern software engineering practices and standards applied to realtime systems and knowledge of Space Systems and Space System Engineering is necessary. In particular you should have experience with SW development Java, OSGi framework, Eclipse Service oriented and component based architectures OSGi Unix Linux system administration and programming Configuration management and build of large SW projects Git, Maven, Jenkins, Nexus Object Oriented design methods and corresponding tools e.g. MagicDraw SCOS 2000 and the SCOS 2000 MIB ICD Experience with the PUS and its tailoring. An ability to work independently and to establish good working relations with ESA and industrial counterparts is essential. This is a permanent position, calling for experience of the development, integration and testing of complex software applications using CORBA. You will be placed on assignment based near Munich in Germany for several years. Candidates should ideally be available to start in July 2016. Our client is is a 16nation intergovernmental research organisation for astronomy. The main working language is English. The role is centred on the ongoing development and maintenance of a software infrastructure common to operational subsystems. The infrastructure is based on a distributed component model, with components implemented in any of thesupported programming languages C, Java and Python. Occasional short trips to an observatory in Chile and other partnership locations 12 weeks are an integral part of the job description. The key experience and attributes sought are At least five years experience in the development, integration and testing of complex software applications running on UNIX platforms, preferably Linux, and sound knowledge of programming languages and scripting languages C, C, Java, Python, UNIX shell. A minimum of five years experience in the design and development of applications for distributed software systems. At least three years experience in the development, integration and testing of complex software applications using CORBA, including the internals of CORBA implementations.
