Cisco sells service provider video business back to Permira

(Telecompaper) Cisco has agreed to sell its Service Provider Video Software Solutions (SPVSS) business to Permira, which will rebrand the company and have it focus on developing video services and systems for the pay-TV industry. Abe Peled will be the chairman of the new company. He was previously the CEO of NDS, the predecessor to SPVSS, which Cisco acquired in 2012 from Permira.

Cisco drops Spark name, folds collaboration app into Webex

(Telecompaper) Cisco has announced plans to discontinue its Spark collaboration platform and fold the service into its Webex conferencing service. The result is a new Webex Meetings application for group calls and video meetings and a collaboration application called Webex Teams (formerly Cisco Spark). All the company's video devices will use the new converged platform.

Signatories include ABB, Arm, Cisco, Facebook, HP, HPE, Microsoft, Nokia, Oracle, and Trend Micro. They have made commitments in four areas: stronger defense, no offense, capacity building and collective action.

Cisco to showcase '5G Now' portfolio, starts vRAN industry alliance

(Telecompaper) Cisco is showing at Mobile World Congress its '5G Now' portfolio for service providers. The company said it's already working on 5G development with over 20 mobile operators and services providers. Cisco said it's also working with other vendors to develop an open ecosystem that supports the roll-out of virtual radio access networks.

Cisco returns to sales growth of 3% in January quarter

(Telecompaper) Cisco reported a return to revenue growth in its fiscal second quarter to January, its first in two years. Sales were up 3 percent year-on-year to USD 11.9 billion. The company also announced a 14 percent increase in its quarterly dividend to 33 cents a share and an additional USD 25 billion for repurchasing shares.
