Telstra to acquire 25% stake in Southern Cross Cable Network

(Telecompaper) Southern Cross Cable Network (SCCN) and its shareholders Spark New Zealand, Singtel and Verizon Business announced that Australian operator Telstra has agreed to purchase a 25 percent stake in SCCN and capacity on both the existing network and the new Southern Cross NEXT subsea cable. The share purchase and capacity purchase are inter-conditional, and both are subject to definitive documentation and relevant regulatory approvals.

EU opens in-depth investigation into Vodafone takeover of Liberty Global cable assets

(Telecompaper) The European Commission announced the opening of an in-depth investigation into Vodafone's planned takeover of Liberty Global's cable assets in Germany, Czechia, Hungary and Romania. The merger could reduce competition in particular in Germany and Czech Republic, the Commission said in a statement.

The number of cable homes in Europe grew once again in 2017

The number of cable homes in Europe once again grew in 2017, reaching 69.2 million and comprising 36.3% of all TV households. This was the largest number of cable homes in Europe since 2009 according to IHS Markit (Nasdaq: INFO) and Cable Europe.
