The position covers ground systems operations preparation engineering for the Sentinels Flight Operations System FOS at ESOC, supporting the expansion of the existing flight operations and mission control systems to support the next generation of Sentinel missions. Responsibilities The Sentinels Expansion FOS System Engineering will cover a number of preoperational support activities to the Sentinels Mission Control Teams, linked to the evolutions and new developments required within the EO FOS and in particular the Sentinel Expansion Copernicus Next Generation missions. Overall, the areas to be covered are Ground systems preoperations preparations FOS assembly, integration and validation preoperational activities Spacetoground interfaces testing and validation The specific initial activities foreseen of the expansion rampup are Review of the EGOSCC user needs and provide support to the EGOSCCEGSCC validation test campaign Review of the existing SCOS2000 and EGOSCC CFDP support implementation and familiarisation with the Distributed CFDP operations concept and design Review of the existing SCOS2000 PUSC support extension and assessment of the required delta development for future Earth Observation EO SCOS2000 based missions Followup of the Distributed CFDP MCS function implementation and verification activities, followup of the Mission Control System MCS PUSC support extension implementation and verification activities EGOSCCEGSCC and SCOS2000 based missions control systems Support to the validation of the EGOSCCEGSCC mission control system in preparation of EO missions Support the endtoend system validation of the FOS Distributed CFDP function, participation to the validation of the MCS PUSC support extension and support to the validation of the new MCS FOS infrastructure interfaces EGOSCCEGSCC and SCOS2000 based missions control systems This is a fulltime position to be located at ESOCs premises in Darmstadt with the planned start date on 1st April 2021. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a university degree in a relevant engineering field, you should be able to cover many of the following topics Minimum 5 years relevant experience in Space Flight Operations Systems development activities, from the early requirements definition phase to AIV activities Good understanding of the operational concepts linked to Filebased Operations FBO and CFDP Background and experience working with the ECSS PUS standard. Knowledge of PUSC will be a distinct advantage Proven experience drafting and implementing FOS System Test Plans Understanding and knowledge of EGOSCCEGSCC MCS based systems Demonstrable experience with SCOS2000 based MCS systems. Note that handling of exportcontrolled information ITAR, EAR, EU, etc. may be required, for which you must not be precluded. The position may involve up to 6 European business travels per year.
