Telespazio VEGA Deutschland has been supporting the European Space Industry for over 30 years, including ESA, DLR, EUMETSAT and CNES. This is an opportunity for a Ground stations engineer with experience in maintenance and operations of large antennas for LEO and GEO satellites. This position is unlimited and full time and fully located on customer site EUMETSAT, Darmstadt in Germany. The earliest starting date for this position will be March 2016 and application deadline for this position will be 12th of January 2016. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES Support maintenance of ground stations for operations of EUMETSAT LEO and GEO programmes. The tasks of the Key person will typically include assisting with the preparation or evaluation of proposals, as required, for modificationsimprovements to the Ground Stations and associated equipment planning and scheduling of the implementation, testing and validation of these modifications improvements, and coordination of their roll out into operation planning and scheduling of the regular ground Station maintenance activities within ongoing operational constraint provision of training to operations teams about Ground stations upgrade provision of Ground Station support to operations during critical mission phases including operations preparation activities, and conducting In Orbit Test IOT as part of satellites commissioning provision of status reports about the performance of the ground stations and associated systems investigation and rectification of anomalies reported by the operationsmaintenance team provision of support to the setting up of maintenance agreements contracts from a technical point of view attend daily, weekly operations coordination meetings maintenance of automated and paper operational Ground Stations procedures interface a t technical level with the maintenance services providers Oncall callout QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE Ground stations engineer with experience in maintenance and operations of large antennas for LEO and GEO satellites. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Fluency in English Engineering degree The following skills are essential Ground Station designintegrationtesting large antennas and tracking systems including Antenna Control Unit ACUTracking receivers for LEO and GEO missions TTC baseband equipment including ranging systems including of type INSNEC Cortex High Data Rate Demodulators maintenance and operations of large ground stations including site infrastructure Local and remote Monitoring Control of large ground station and related databases and automated procedures In Orbit Test IOT systems. Software Engineer Development and Maintenance of Astronomical Operations Software mf The Mission The Atacama Large Millimeter Array is an astronomical interferometer dedicated to studying star birth during the early universe as well as providing detailed imaging of local star and planet formation. The Very Large Telescope is a collection of unit telescopes capable of detecting objects roughly four billion times fainter than can be detected with the naked eye. Both telescopes are operated in international partnerships. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced software engineer to contribute to the development and maintenance of a suite of astronomical operations software. The successful candidate will support these activities at the site of Termas longterm customer, an international astronomical institute based in Munich. The scope of work includes requirement capture, testing, integration, deployment and enduser support. It requires regular interaction with scientists and support staff.
