Three main entity categories are involved in this task the PI teams having built the experiments, a Mission Operations Center MOC which coordinates the satellite operations and a Science Ground Segment SGS which coordinates the operations of the scientific payload. A second task of the science operations is in the area of downlink and archiving where the success of an observation needs to be tracked and the resultant products from the PI teams archived for access by the planetary community. The Rosetta Science Operations in the RSGS are led by the Rosetta Science Operations Managers in close coordination with the Mission Manager, who has overall responsibility for the Rosetta mission, and with the Project Scientist, who is responsible for optimizing the science return of Rosetta. The Rosetta Operations and Planning Group is comprised of a number of operational engineers and scientists. A basic principle of the Rosetta science operations is the requirement for a strong involvement by each PI team for the preparation of the science operations. The Science Working Team SWT advises the project scientist on science matters for the mission and indirectly assists the RSGS in elaborating science strategies and maximizing the scientific return of the mission. WP1 LongTerm Planning Support for Rosetta Tasks Support the creation of observation sequences from the requests provided by the PI teams Using the applicable software, develop a proposal for a schedule of observations.
