Within the Meteosat Spacecraft Operations team of the Flight Operations FLO Division, the Meteosat Spacecraft Operations Engineer will support the operations preparation and operations of the future Meteosat Third Generation MTG satellites and routine operations of Meteosat Second Generation MSG satellites. DUTIES Support the integration of the MTG ground segment facilities supporting flight operations, e.g. satellite simulators, mission control and mission planning systems, and ensure the exchange of relevant information between the MTG development teams and the Flight Operations Division Support MTG space segment and system reviews to ensure correct implementation of operations requirements Contribute to the specification, development, procurement, verification and validation of operations preparation tools Support operations preparation activities for the MTGI imaging mission and MTGS sounding mission satellites, including technical support to specific development activities, e.g. of on board software and offline tools Participate in the definition and execution of necessary training activities and operational rehearsals for MTG operations personnel Support Launch and Early Operations Phase LEOP services for the MTGI and MTGS satellites Support the definition and execution of MTG system commissioning activities Plan routine operations of Meteosat Second Generation MSG and MTG space segment components, including planning of oncall support Support MSGand MTG spacecraft operations, including maintenance of operational procedures and databases, anomaly investigations and participation in oncall support Interface with the MTG development programme, ESA and Space Segment industry as required Deputise for the MTG Spacecraft Operations Preparation Team Leaders as required. University degree or equivalent in aerospace engineering or other relevant discipline Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Successful proven professional experience in the field of satellite operations, gained during operations preparation andor routine operations of a complex space system Professional experience in fields such as Satellite payload systems or Data Handling and Onboard Software subsystems would be an advantage Ability to understand the implications of decisions taken during the development phase for future routine operations Ability to followup on a number of different tasks and ensure their completion at good quality levels with minimum supervision Knowledge of satellite system design andor of satellite monitoring and control principles for safe and efficient operations Ability to detail and synthesise technical concepts in formal documents and verbal presentations Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to apply these to interactions within a team and between teams. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS The initial contract will be of 4 years duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of followup contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. This post is graded A2A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 5,612 per month net of internal tax which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
