Description As a member of the OPS Satellite Routine Operations team, the Consultant shall provide support to the development and operation of the Satellite Core Ground System. Main duties are the operation of the Spacecraft Mission Control System MCS in the context of the Core Ground System. The role comprises a range of tasks including the provision of support to the routine operation of the MCS, and the interfaces between the MCS and other components of the Satellite Core Ground Segment CGS. The engineer will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures pertaining to the operation of the MCS and these interfaces and specifically Satellite configuration management and quality assurance practices. In addition, the Consultant will be expected to acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the CGS, particularly in the areas of system monitoring control and data flows, due to the central role the MCS plays in the operation of the CGS. Also included is the review of any planned changes to the system configuration and the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine operation of the MCS. The engineer will also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of MCS engineers. In particular the tasks will include Definition and maintenance of MCS operations procedures, including System Control Procedures SCPs, Ground Control Procedures GCPs and the MCS and Operational Database Operations Guides Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimization of spacecraft monitoring and control activities Interface with other facilities within the Satellite Core Ground Segment to ensure the continuity and optimization of ground segment and mission monitoring and control activities Interface with external elements of the Satellite Overall Ground Segment to ensure the continuity and optimization of data exchanges with the MCS Interface with the MCS maintenance team and industry representatives to ensure optimized performance by the MCS, including participating in the definition and implementation of any changes Investigation into anomalies, their documentation, classification and correctionmitigation, participation in Anomaly Review Boards Participation in further technical meetings, formal reviews, and scheduling and planning meetings Provision of training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other members of the Routine Operations Team. Profile In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Consultant shall have at least four years experience in the operation or maintenance of SCOS 2K realtime spacecraft control systems. Experience of Low Earth Orbit LEO spacecraft control systems and operations are essential. The Consultant shall have significant work experience with a UNIX operating system. The consultant shall have good communications skills, to allow the effective communication of information under a variety of circumstances. The Consultant should be used to working proactively within a small team, being able to work with the minimum of supervision. The variety of the tasks and the scope and complexity of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. The ability to perform under very high workloads and adapt to a rapidly changing environment is essential, conducting all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner and working calmly and correctly under stress. While the official languages are English and French, the working language for the position is English and therefore consultant must be able to work effectively in this language.
