DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 300 PM MDT (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Eugene was located near latitude 11.9 North, longitude 111.2 West. Eugene is moving toward the northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue during the next few days with a slight increase in forward speed. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and Eugene is forecast to become a hurricane on Sunday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km), mainly to the north and east of the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1006 mb (29.71 inches).
