Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies Brazil and Veolia Water Americas signed a contract with Petrobras to design, build, own and operate an oil-bearing secondary material processing unit at its Alberto Pasqualini REFAP Refinery located in Porto Alegre, South Brazil. It is the sixth largest of Petrobras’ refineries with a capacity of 200,000 barrels/day. The new unit will use Veolia’s proprietary processes to recycle the oil-bearing material back into the refining production processes, which is anticipated to result in approximately $1.5 million in annual cost savings.

Function One of the core tasks of the Earth Observation unit is the processing of high resolution images taken from aeroplane photos. During the past few years, a generic chain has been developed in previous years to process different types of data data originating from pushbroom hyperspectral scanners, whiskbroom scanners, photogrammetric digital cameras, video cameras,.... and this chain is continually being expanded and improved. The aim of the role is to manage and control the processing chain in its entirety, including atmospheric and geometric corrections. You will implement new algorithms, carry out tests and process data from airborne campaigns. These tasks require a thorough knowledge and passion for image processing from both a physical and ICTrelated perspective. Also, the data from the Airborne Prism Experiment APEX of the European Space Agency ESA should also be processed via this chain. You will take a full and active part in the APEX project and will be the processing expert for the APEX processing centre at VITO. For this you will have frequent contact with our scientific partners. You will form the link between the processing environment and the researcher who develop applications based on the processed data. Profile You have a Masters degree or are a Doctor in a science or engineering discipline. Skilled programming in C is a prerequisite. Experience of Java is an advantage. You are a team player and possess outstanding flexibility and customer focus. You are fluent in two languages Dutch and English and have good knowledge of French. You communicate well, both verbally and in writing, and have good interpersonal skills. You have an analytical mind and have a critical attitude. You are prepared to undertake short stays abroad. We are looking to further enhance our team by adding Instrument Data Processing Algorithms Software Engineering Support You will be based initially for 2 years at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Your Tasks Include The main task of the consultant will be the maintenance and further development of the operational MSG Image Processing Facility IMPF software, in particular, the algorithm and data processing aspects of the IMPF software. In addition, the consultant may also support development activities of the MTG and EPSSG Programmes. Primarily these development activities will focus on the Image Navigation and Registration processing, which is part of the mission instrument data processing. Both online and offline functions development are part of these activities. Your Profile In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as aerospace engineering, physics or remote sensing, the Consultant shall have strong mathematical skills and at least three years recent experience in Implementation of numerical algorithms, ideally in an imageprocessing context. Objectoriented system design. C programming. UNIX. Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Consultant to have experience with some of the following Realtime image processing of large volumes of data. Geometric correction navigation registration of satellite images. Radiometric correction calibration of satellite images. Performance optimisation of algorithms. IDL or MATLAB. Integration, verification, and validation of realtime data processing systems. Familiarity with ECSS standards, in particular those related to software development. The Consultant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. Good communication, presentation and listening skills are an advantage. Fluency in English is mandatory together with good communication skills.
