Data Processing Operations Engineer

For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently seeking a Data Processing Operations Engineer to support the routine operations phases of the Meteosat Second Generation MSG, Meteosat Transition MTP and EUMETSAT Polar System EPS Programmes. Tasks The engineer shall work in the Realtime Services and System Operations RSO of the Operations and Services to Users Department as a member of the Data Processing Operations DPO Team supporting the operations of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems. The tasks of the engineer will typically include Supporting routine operations involving the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems including o Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 products and EPS Level 0 and Level 2 products o Investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 products and EPS Level 0 and Level 2 products o Preparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to data processing operations o Providing Standbycallout support. Supporting the further development of the MSG and EPS data processing systems including the specification and validation of system updates Supporting the operations preparations for future MSG and EPS spacecraft Supporting the preparations for Meteosat Third Generation Attendance to technical meetings Participation in formal reviews. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants require a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Essential A minimum of 3 years of experience in the realtime acquisition, Level 0 processing and Level 1 processing of data andor Level 2 processing of data from imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft Significant experience in validating complex remote sensing data processing systems Experience with UNIXLinux operating. Desirable Imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft Programming Languages e.g. C, C and Fortran Scripting Languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Spacecraft andor ground segment operations Knowledge andor experience of geophysical remote sensing data processing, e.g. Image Navigation and Registration INR, radiometric correction, calibration algorithms and retrieval of geophysical. The engineer shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. Fluency in English is mandatory and a working knowledge of French would be an advantage, together with good communication skills. For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for a Product Processing Integration Engineer for the EPS Data and Product Processing Facilities fm at Eumetsat. Tasks The activities performed by the keyperson will be an input for the overall System and ground segment VV activities. The keyperson will typically be involved in tasks related to test tools test data, with focus on tools data required for VV of instrument data processing chains. Tools can serve for example the purpose of test data generation manipulation reformatting, test data injection into the ground segment and test data collection analysis. The selected keyperson would be a member of the EPSSG System Team in the Low Earth Orbit Division LEO at EUMETSAT. Typical tasks include Identification of the suite of test tools and test data required to support VV activities, and definition of development procurement approach and associated planning Preparation of User Requirement Documents, Statements of Work, etc., as needed as input for development andor procurement activities Support for inhouse development and validation of test tools and their maintenance Support for procurements of test tools test data, including the analysis of received deliverables and attending acceptance tests Support for acceptance of test tools test data provided by partners Simulation of test data sets for VV using available tools compilation of test data sets using real data from satellite instrument onground tests or inorbit operation In case of tools to be connected to the ground segment, input for the specification and test of relevant interfaces Support for configuration management of tools test data sets, using applicable EUMETSAT processes Operation of the tools, or support for it, when used for system and ground segment VV activities Contributions to the analysis of test results and the preparation of test reports In addition the keyperson will be involved in some more general tasks Participation in relevant internal and external meetings Regular review of System level documentation dealing with requirements, system concepts, architecture and design, technical analyses, to identify information of importance for test tools test data In addition, and with the same aim, analysis of documents provided by other teams in EUMETSAT and by external partners Support for the preparation of documentation for System level reviews, during the covered period the System Requirements Review and Preliminary Design Review Participation in relevant internal and external meetings Regular review of System level documentation dealing with requirements, system concepts, architecture and design, technical analyses, to identify information of importance for test tools test data In addition, and with the same aim, analysis of documents provided by other teams in EUMETSAT and by external partners Support for the preparation of documentation for System level reviews, during the covered period the System Requirements Review and Preliminary Design Review Essential requirements Proven knowledge and handson experience with the following is mandatory A University degree in the domain of engineering, physics or equivalent At least 5 years of general experience with the development of onground processing of data from satellite instruments for Earth observation At least 5 years of direct involvement in VV activities for instrument processing chains, including production of test tools and of test data At least 5 years of experience with software specification, design and development and relevant standards Very good skills in higher programming languages, such as Fortran, CC, Java The keyperson shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan hisher work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. Heshe shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills verbal and written are important. Heshe shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies.
