The primary areas of responsibility for this position are the Test Validation in the AOCS domain TVA for Science Missions, including interplanetary missions and missions in Lagrangian orbits. The service to be provided is primarily related to EXOMARS RSP, Euclid launch preparation, LEOP support and operations, and BepiColombo operations. However, the engineer may also be requested to provide the services related to GAIA, Mars Express, ExoMars TGO, JUICE, Hera and Solar Orbiter. Successful Candidate Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics Very good skills in linear algebra, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3dimensional space. Being familiar with different representations of rotation in 3D, thus including the representation of SC attitude cosine direction matrix, Euler symmetric parameters quaternions, Eulerangles ... is an asset. Very good skills in calculus in one or several variables. Skills in numerical methods for equations solving, integration of differential equations, function approximation and interpolation, optimisation, linear algebra problems. Very good skills in classical mechanics, including kinematics and dynamics of point masses, dynamics of rigid bodies, dynamics expressed in noninertial reference frames, e.g. including dynamics in rotating frames, rotation dynamics expressed in body fixed frame, conservation laws in mechanics, gravitational forces and field, orbit dynamics, Keplerian orbits and Kepler laws. Ability to solve mechanics problems via analytical mechanics methods e.g. Lagrangian formulation is a valuable asset. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts Very good C programming skills and experience, in particular in objectoriented design and coding skills using C as main programming language. Knowledge of UnixLinux, and scripting languages and is a valuable asset. Experience in Linux operating system. Will to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing. Overview The contractor will be assigned to the Flight Software Systems Section of the Software Systems Division in the function of onboard software system engineer and will be in charge of the following initial tasks Supporting a variety of ESA space missions in the field of realtime embedded software and systems. Participating in the full development lifecycle of the mission and onboard software. Identifying technical risks and critical areas in the development process while assisting in their resolution. Applying the principles of mission safety critical software development across multiple disciplines. Providing expert technical support and consultancy to general studies in the field of realtime embedded software systems, flight software systems development and software validation facilities focused on both simulated environments and hardware in the loop. Specific qualification requirements A University degree MSc or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline plus at least 4 years of relevant experience. Experience in modern software engineering methods and tools. Experience in realtime embedded software and Real Time Kernels. Experience with software development projects and knowledge of all phases of the software development lifecycle. Programming languages C, Ada, C andor others. Microprocessors such as SPARC LEON, ARM, multicores etc. Communication protocols Mil1553, SpaceWire, CAN. Software Engineering Standards such as the ECSSEST40C. Knowledge of spacecraft systems would be an advantage. Able to function as part of a team because of the operational nature of the support, a proactive and flexible attitude will be required. Proficient in the English Language Spoken and Written. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA.
