Job Description On behalf of the European Space Agency ESA, we are looking for a Telecommunications Satellite Payload Engineer for their location in Harwell, UK, to join their Space Segment Section. Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe and not by ESA. The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to Tasks and Responsibilities Support the initiation of activities related to technology and product development for payload applications. Support the establishment and control of relevant ESA requirements, specifications and general documentation. Evaluation, support to negotiation, monitoring and control of development contracts and activities. Preparation of inputs to status reports. Contribute to the preparation of technology and product development work plans. Support other members of the TIATTP section on their projects and share expertise within the section. Monitor market and technology trends and developments in the area of satellite communication. Cooperate with specialists in other ESA departments. Identify any issues during the procurement phase, the running or closing of an activity, and flag them for attention in a timely manner. Support the timely preparation of papers for Adjudication Committee meetings or Delegate bodies IPC, JCB, with high quality standards. Provide inputs for the Department Business Intelligence management system. Support TIA communication activities in line with the ESA TIA Communication Policy rules. Follow the relevant and applicable ISO procedures. Maintain the required level of confidentiality and security as defined in the ESA Security Directives. Requirements The post holder shall be an experienced person who has a Master or PhD degree or equivalent qualification in engineering and minimum 4 years of experience in payload technology and products for telecommunication satellites General experience with the design, analysis, qualification, testing and implementation of satellite payload equipment for telecommunication satellites, with substantial experience in one or more of the following Management of development contracts for satellite payload equipment Design, development andor exploitation of antenna and rf units, such as Low noise amplifiers Channel amplifiers and linearisers Power amplifiers Frequency converters Digital signal processors. A sound knowledge of multiple different types of payload equipment and their functions at payload level is desirable. This PDGS expert will have the opportunity to share hisher experience in the field of technical supervision and coordination of Payload Data Ground Segment engineering and AIV activities. Strong competences in design and development of EO space systems. Strong competences in the Commissioning activities with regards to calibration and validation of EO systems. Experience in the definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of DOORS or other similar tool. Use of simulation tools for the definition of GS performances, e.g. Stk, MATLAB, IDL, Python. Proven capability to define of GS design throughout the support of model based methods, techniques and tools e.g. SysML, UML, Capella MBSE. Sound knowledge of ground system engineering processes, and ground system and software life cycles. Sound knowledge of relevant ECSS standards. Experience with coordinating partners from different companies in an international project. Results oriented attitude. Planning and organizational skills. ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Spacecraft Engineer, Payload Subsystem will be part of the Payload Engineering team, leading payload inorbit operations and the design and implementation of innovative operational solutions for the SES fleet.
