Commercialisation of ESA Patents Portfolio

The objective of this function is to push the portfolio of the Technology Transfer Promotion Office to the market. The term market covers both space and nonspace applications. The aim is that ESAs patents portfolio be used by the space industry both within and outside ESAs Member States and by other sectors of industry. You shall use the patent documentation patent applicationpatent granted as well as any information collected to develop technology descriptions, easy to understand and adapted to the marketing of the technology. You shall interact with ESAs inventors and experts in order to obtain the information needed to carry out this task. You shall use any media and platform required to promote the technology offers to the space and nonspace industry. This task may also require travelling to meet the industry. This includes, but is not limited to the publication of the portfolio on ESAs dedicated page, promoting through other web platforms and social media liaising with the technical officer. the promotion will of course include attending dedicated events The Service Personnel shall, as much as possible, identify the events worth attending every six months, in order to coordinate actions with the rest of the Technology Transfer Office Network. Facetoface meetings with industry partners to gather their technology needs and introduce ESAs inventions that could bring solutions to their business. The marketing of the inventions will trigger questions from potential licensees. You will Keep a record of the questions, by inventions, in order to track the interest and build internal knowledge about the invention Provide prompt answer to the potential licensees Setup meetings with inventors when it is necessary. Otherwise gather the answer from the inventors or other technical experts that can support the case Identify and propose any solution that the Technology Transfer Programme could offer to support the integration of the invention in the new product this could be for instance, introduction to the brokers, to the demonstrator calls, the BICs or any other relevant programme of the Agency. You will support the Agency in the negotiation and drafting of the terms of the license agreements and any other legal documents that can be deemed necessary NDAs, assignments, etc. The Agency has already developed and approved some templates to provide for the legal basis of the agreement. The negotiation will be more focussed on the commercial aspects. When modifications to the legal terms are required, you will point them out to the Agency and discuss the way forward. You will introduce Head of Terms for a license agreement to the potential licensee after having defined the commercial terms together with ESA.. The counter proposal of the potential licensee shall be reviewed together, approved by ESA, and following actions will be agreed. When commercial license are in place, license feeshandling fees and or royalties may be applied. You will collect license feeshandling fees and or royalties in due time according to the terms of the signed license agreement in the name of the Agency. On a yearly basis you shall transfer back to the Agency the license feeshandling fees and or royalties collected through the year. MyIP database, ESAs database used to record any information and documentation relevant for the inventions shall be kept uptodate. Experience and education MBALaw Degree At least 4 years or previous relevant working experience in the field of Technology Transfer A resultsoriented and proactive approach. Applicants should demonstrate excellent communication skills, and be client focussed. They should have proven ability to work autonomously, whilst being a cooperative team player in a diverse and international team. SAP and IPSAS knowledge is considered a distinct asset for the position. Unit The task covers the operations, maintenance and evolutions of the Documentation Management System DMS, including processes, processes and the use of supporting electronic documentation management tool, for a given projectprogramme or organisational unit. It includes the following typical duties Regular review of the status of documents in the different archives and where appropriate register this information in the DMS database. Document registration, distribution and archiving, as well as provision of reproduction services. LOCATION The duty station is ESTEC, Noordwijk The Netherlands with a resident assignment in Oberpfaffenhofen Germany. DUTIES Under the authority of the Head of the Columbus Operations Division, the postholder has overall responsibility for managing the endtoend preparation and implementation of the ESA activities for specific ISS increments assigned to himher. These ESA activities relate to the Columbus module, including its payload facilities and the associated ground segment and operations to support ISS operations. The ESA ISS Increment Manager fulfils the role of ESA Columbus Mission Director ESA MD, and as such is responsible for defining, preparing, implementing and overseeing the execution of all ESA Columbus mission operations activities related to the assigned ISS increments. The ESA MD is during realtime operations the single interface for directions to the flight control team. Specifically, duties will include managing assessment of ESA and NASA requirements for the upcoming ISS increment defining and managing the activities required to implement ESAs ISS requirements for a specific increment and other requirements on NASA payloads in the Columbus module IDRDIRD development planning and implementing the increment reviews coordinating and implementing the Certification of Flight Readiness process and undertakings for each flightstage of the increment providing the operational interface to the ESA ISS programme management during the preparation phase with respect to progress reporting, programmatic guidance, and resolution of issues daytoday management of the mission operations activity flow, including onconsole presence, regular meetings, tagups internally in ColCC and externally with European centres and International Partner entities directing the Flight Control Teams at ColCC during the execution phase of the specific increment both routinely through meetings with the Columbus Lead Increment Flight Director and exceptionally via discussions with the Columbus Flight Director on shift if the situation requires realtime programmatic direction providing the formal ESA interface to the NASA ISS Increment Manager and Launch Package Managers managing the preparation of the Postincrement Report. Other operationsrelated tasks not linked to a specific increment may be assigned to the incumbent during periods in which there is no specific increment assignment. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in science or engineering and management experience. A thorough knowledge of the Space Station programme, Columbus system, and payload operations is essential. Previous experience of international cooperation will be an asset. The post requires candidates to be systemminded and have a resultsoriented approach. The postholder will work in a highly complex operational environment and needs to be able to integrate teams and operational entities spread across different countries. The ability to plan and organise efficiently is required, as are good communications skills. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these languages is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
