The worldwide AR and VR headset market returned to growth after a year of decline as global shipments during the first quarter of 2019 (1Q19) reached 1.3 million, up 27.2% from the same quarter last year, according to IDC.

Fibre grows to over 20% of Dutch broadband revenues in Q1

The latest research from Telecompaper shows fibre's share of revenues increased by 2 percent points over the year to March, as the expansion in network coverage drives subscriber growth.

MediaTek unveils 5G SoC, to be in first smartphones by Q1 2020

(Telecompaper) MediaTek has unveiled at Computex its first multi-mode 5G chipset, designed to power the first wave of high-end 5G smartphones. The 7nm SoC uses the MediaTek Helio M70 5G modem, Arm's new Cortex-A77 CPU and Mali-G77 GPU, and MediaTek's most advanced AI processing unit to meet the power and performance demands of 5G.

Facebook removes over 2 billion fake accounts in Q1

(Telecompaper) Facebook reported a sharp increase in fake accounts on the social network in the first quarter of 2019 and last quarter of 2018. In its latest report on standards enforcement, the company said automated, scripted attacks have resulted in more of these accounts making it past initial detection. It estimates in total around 5 percent of its monthly active users were fake accounts.
