We require staff, wishing to join our team in Zaventem Brussels to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position Software and Data Systems Department Manager mf SDSDM201504 Tasks and Responsibilities The Software and Data Systems Department with a staff close to 20 engineers comprises the Control and Data Centres Team, the Earth Observation Systems Team and the Knowledge Management Team, each managed by a Team Lead. This Department specifies, designs, develops and delivers software intensive systems and solutions to our customers and researches and develops enabling technology. In addition, the Department is responsible for the activities for the continued development, maintenance and support of the Company IT infrastructure. The Software and Data Systems Department Manager operates alongside the other Department Managers in the Company, all of whom are under the overall direction of the Managing Directors. The Department Manager has the overall responsibility for the Departments success by agreeing, implementing and monitoring Department objectives and targets whilst ensuring Company policies and procedures are adhered to. The Department Managerwill spend part of hisher time managing and organising the Department and part of hisher time assisting in the development of Department business. The role involves the operational management and mentoring of the Team Leads of the Department. Qualifications and Experience A university or higher level degree in a relevant engineering or scientific domain, such as software engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, etc. At least 8 years experience in a technologicalengineeringscientific discipline preferably in developing space applications. Experience with team management. Experience with international project management. Experience with the complete lifecycle of software development. Experience with traditional and agile methods of software development. Experience with ECSSE40 software engineering standards. Experience of the following would be an advantage o Application of additional ECSS and ISO standards. o Working on software development for the European Space Agency ESA or other international organisations applying rigorous software development standards and practices. o Research and Development within the European Commissions FP7 or Horizon 2020 programme. Ability to work in structured and unstructured situations. Attention to detail, yet capable at seeing the bigger picture. Fluent spoken and written English. Able and willing to travel abroad for business from time to time, sometimes at short notice. Tasks The core task of the Key Person, as a member of the Processing Applications Engineering PAE Team within the SEP DPSA CA, shall be to support the maintenance and evolution of the EPS and MSG data processing facilities, in particular the EPS FEPPGF and the MSG IMPF. The Key Person shall also provide support to the maintenance and evolution of the IDRS facility and the NRT processing centre of SARAL, and may also be assigned to similar tasks in the context of any other activity within the scope of the DPSA CA. The Key Person duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operations and maintenance, to the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures. For procurements and maintenance services provided externally, the Key Person shall provide support to the management of the technical interface with the external contractors.
